Had my roof replaced last week, they did a good job. Roofing company has a contracted company to do the gutters. They came out today and replaced all the gutters and downspouts.

    GREAT JOB. HAHAHA

(don't mind the rotted trim and all the color discrepancies, house is getting painted to match everything in a few months)

The crew wasn’t even out of the neighborhood before I called. Lol. I could tell just by the looks of the crew I needed to inspect stuff. I don’t like inspecting any work with the contractor on site. I feel rushed. I miss things.

My buddy runs the roofing company, I owe them a few grand still. I told them the gutter company is going to have to replace everything. If the downspouts are this terrible, I’ve found no less than 30 of these self tappers just in my driveway, every downspout is at a different height, multiple scratches on every downspout, the more I look the more shit I find. Never expected in a million years that a gutter install could be so fucked.

Crazy thing is this gutter company has 100s of 5 star reviews on Google.

I had the same sort of issue with a window contractor, 100s of 5 star reviews on every site, been in business over 30 years and there were 1/2” gaps between the windows and the trim on all sides. When I called them out on it they just wanted to fill the gaps with caulking.

I ended up deciding that either they were very good at finding customers with low standards or my job was too complex for their company.

Maybe there are also a lot of people out there who don’t care how their downspouts look?

    The joys of homeownership!

Shoddy workmanship aside I do like the contrast of the black rain gutters and downspouts with the white house paint.

Once the house gets painted it will look better. Fresh white trim, black gutters, pewter colored (light gray) shingles. House will be light grey with some dark (almost black) gray accents as well as garage door, front door, etc. Also the black gutters should look cleaner longer. I have a lot of trees and the organic matter stains the white gutters up pretty quick. Pain to clean.

Up until today I had no reason to ever ever look at a downspout or pay attention to how they were attached to a house. But I knew something was off with the crew. Took me about 3 seconds with a google search to realize they do in fact sell proper clips and straps to attach downspouts to the house with.

The owner is coming out today so I will get to update you guys today as well with what they are going to do to rectify the situation.

After getting nearly all of our kitchen reno done in October...and then taking some time off for unexpected heart bypass surgery... finished the built in today. It backs up against the living room drywall.

Did a header and removed two studs and sistered a middle one to have one shelf behind the double doors rather than two short ones

Well heck, just come across this whole thread. Spent my last weekend digging up the main water line to my house! Only to see that the line was a damn black irrigation pipe, my leak in the middle of my just last summer tar coating on my driveway! spent to days trying to get the plugs to seal up, then a short term water line run from my water meter to my house while I had a real plumber come out and use a cool robot to trench in a brand new legal pipe without tearing up more of my driveway!

    2 x 4, so shelf depth is 8"

Did the doors so bottom of upper doors are 31" from the floor. That lets them swing open and clear 30" table

what's the issue you're having, and what model fan is it?

i can almost guarantee it's far simpler to take care of this yourself than to bother with any company for it.

and most fans, the only reason they're "not compatible with 2 switches" will be because they don't have pull chains to adjust the fan speed or light, and those functions are built into the wireless unit(green box). but they absolutely are compatible with a light switch and a hardwired fan speed controller(or a standard switch if you only ever want the fan on it's highest setting)...

honestly, the biggest problem i've ran into with most hunter fans is the more-buried 'magic box' within for the light kits that limit bulb sizes to 40 watts. even using the correct-spec bulbs, it will spontaneously decide it hates life and refuse to allow the light bulbs to illuminate. easier to yank it/bypass it, and everything works as it should.

When wiring in a new wall oven, why not install a receptacle and a plug? Our old one had crimps instead of wire nuts, is that considered a fire hazard? I am not an electrician!

Code requires any permanent fixture to be hard wired. A regular range/oven can be moved so that is why they're plugged in. There was a time people were using dryer outlets and cords on water heaters and they were burning up.

The crimps were an old way of doing it. Pre-twist and wire nut is just fine.
