Anyone got any pics of their Contour on a 4G? Do you need to open the rear window before opening/closing the tailgate? Any surprises you've found now that you've owned it? Lots of info on the SmartCap, but all ya'll AluCab owners seem far more quiet which I assume means you're happy.

I have one on order, since last November. They're still in transit, so not many out there to comment on. People seem to love them on the 3rd gen Tacoma.

Interesting... was noticing OK4WD says they have them in stock for the 4G. Hopefully you'll get yours soon. :)

You got me excited for a second there. Just checked on the version I ordered (6' w/ windows) and it's still on backorder. Looks like the 5' version has arrived though. Hopefully somebody posts up w/ some pics soon.

I should have mine installed on the 18th. That’s if I can complete the bed and rearview mirror camera relocate kit installed before then. I’ll post photos once it’s done. The back window on the canopy does need to open in order to open the tailgate. Guess I’ll never get to use the power tailgate much going forward. Went with the Alucab vs RSI due to the one piece construction. It rains a lot where I live.
My 2005 TRD OR has a colored match fiberglass top, so I’m looking forward to the weight savings.

Are you doing the install yourself? Curious if you've found a plugin wiring kit for the lights or plan to splice things in.

Canopy is being installed at a local shop. I plan on rerouting the cameras on my own. I’m handling the camera stuff and the shop will handle lighting and brake light wiring on the canopy. The quote to install the camera rerouting kit from the shop was more than I expected, so I’ll tackle that part on my own. Honestly it’s a bit intimidating for a truck I’ve had for 1 1/2 months but it was bound to start sometime.

Nice! I do like how they tucked it in under the spoiler. Looks clean and like it was actually designed for the 4G rather than something generic.

Same here. Installed about a week ago at the other Mule location. I would like to black out, maybe powder coat, the bolts holding on the extra piece the fills the gap between the cab and canopy. And still need to complete the bed and DRV camera relocate. Purchased load bars yesterday to use as an attachment point for the DRV. Just need the extra hardware to secure the camera cable to the top rails.
And FYI...I was worried about getting stuck inside the canopy in some weird chain of events while I was out in the middle of nowhere. I didn't think about this part before purchase or install. I discovered it a couple days later, there's no easy way to get out once the latches have been closed. They aren't going to get shut by the wind but it's still a possibility. I messaged with AluCab and they informed me that you can remove the locking latch from the inside with an 8mm socket wrench.

Looks great with the burnt oxide!

Regarding the latches, I'm trying to figure out the best way to at least get two of them to be electrical. Looks like there are a few options. Electrolatch makes a drop in replacement for the entire latch assembly. There is also a company called Canopy Locks based in Australia which sells kits to convert the existing latches. The advantage of the conversion kit is that if you do want to use the key to lock things, you don't have different keys for the sides & rear if you don't want to spend the $$$ on converting the side latches. Or you can convert all 6 latches for less than half the price of the Electrolatch's.

Right now I'm thinking of doing the canopy locks conversion, but need to dig through the electrical wiring diagram to figure out how easy it will be to tie the locks into the existing door lock circuit.

Didn't know about a electronic version, I'll have to look into that. Thanks for sharing.
On mine, all six locks on the canopy use the same key.

Welp started installing my Contour. Things went pretty well until my buddy decided to use an impact driver (not an impact wrench!) to tighten up the bolts on one side of the canopy while I did the other side by hand. TL;DR: 3 of the bolts he tightened are fubar and have to be replaced because I sheared the bolt trying to loosen the nut. (see photo) Best guess I have is that while tightening the threads elongated a bit and jammed the nut. Having worked on cars and motorcycles for 30 years, never had that happen to me.

Looks like all the hex bolts are A2-70 stainless steel and the carriage bolts are unmarked- probably grade 4.6. Just placed an order with McMaster-Carr to replace all the bolts with automotive grade 8.8 bolts and new class 10 nylock nuts. To be fair, the stock bolts are stainless and more corrosion resistant, but I'll take the stronger zinc plated bolts any day.

Note for anyone interested in doing the same: the only grade 8.8 carriage bolts McMaster stocks have a slightly larger square base than the holes in the brackets. I might have to file them down slightly to fit.

Contact OK4WD, they are the main distributor to all the shops in North America for AluCab.

Those South African hardware bits are definitely metric and OK4WD probably has boxes of them.

Yep, they're metric. Honestly, I'm really happy with the Countor- except the bolts. I should have the new 8.8 bolts tomorrow (even with UPS ground, McMaster is over night for me most times) so should be able to finish this up and not think about this again.
