Don’t feel bad, not long ago I was thinking about my own deer hunting of the last few seasons, first having a bit of luck helped, because when I start breaking down the rest of the facts:

    Break action shotgun
    Walk in unit
    No tree stands or blinds,
    Not far enough to glass
    Just sneaking through the woods….

    I am Elmer Fudd :anonymous:

So, look what happens when you pass up a small buck and let him grow up. And no, I don't own a ranch. I hunt on a smallish amount of property. Fortunately it is surrounded by private property. I think back to the poster a few pages back that posted a picture of small racks going on endlessly. Rock on.

Never meant to judge anyone. Only offer an opinion. Didn't realize an opinion would be so harshly judged here. So you guys go on with the whole "if it's brown it's down" . I don't agree with that, find it ironic that makes me such a monster.

No. Are you insinuating it's harder to kill a nice one? I mean I give you that. My only point ever was that a trophy can't become a trophy if it's killed before it becomes the trophy. Seems common sense to me. Apparently I'm in the minority there.

    Not taking the philosophical route.

The sheer numbers don’t really give every hunter the choice to pick a deer you may deem “mature” enough or a trophy unless they want to eat tag soup year after year. For example, the stats show about 23% success rate or something like that in the state of Washington as it is... If someone wants to put some meat in the freezer, yeah it may be brown and down… I wish I could kill a wall hanger every year, hopefully I will in my lifetime.. nice deer you’ve killed, congrats.

You’re a real fucking douchebag aren’t you? It’s either that or you have an affinity for touching yourself while trolling forums

I’m super fucking stoked that you’ve stopped trolling the archery thread only to bring your shitbaggery to the general deer hunting thread.

23% is pretty good. Most areas I could get a tag for that doesn’t require flying into Alaska has like a 12% success rate for blacktail. Then you got to get in and out of deep country.

that’s the whole state which includes a population of mule deer and whitetail east of the cascade mountains, success on a true blacktail may be less you are correct. Regardless total deer population is a fraction of some other places in the US. The opportunity doesn’t present itself at the same rate

There is a reason they are often referred to as gray ghosts. I’ve hunted them in 3 states over 4 decades. From deep in the Redwoods of Northern California to Hancock property in and around Green Water Wa. Coastal Black tails are some of the most challenging hunts I’ve been on.

that’s all I guess I was kinda getting at, chasing ghosts, especially a mature deer.. passing something and waiting for it to grow is fine and dandy if you can ever find him again….. like you pointed out ghosts..
