1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I had to do that for a while with the starter on an old Honda almost every time I needed to go somewhere. That car was the old fashion "push to start"

 

Is that what it's doing? I think it's 3rd gear a slipping by design, the higher rpm spoils the turbo quicker and then it locks up, hence the rpm drop. That would make more sense to me at least. No way do I believe it's going all the way down to 2nd, that seems bonkers. I do the same and try to pop off OD before the hill, it's easier on things.

 

I think I am remembering incorrectly actually. It drops out of 4th Locked to 3rd Unlocked for a couple seconds, then 3rd locked. At lower speeds though I have seen mine drop to 2nd locked if pedal position is above 75%. Which is rare. I wish it could have been commanded to lock in 2nd with normal driving conditions. But TC lock only occurs in 3rd at speeds >45mph. So dumb.

 

Yeah ok I'm not crazy, but that's exactly how it felt to me to work.

It's the most elastic feeling driving experience I've ever had. Like my AMG the power was instant, but this thing feels like there's a god dam rubber and between my foot and the power lol

Since we are speaking about the trans I'm glad I had them do full rear brakes and adjust the parking brake as they kinda borked the shift linkage cable. While now I can lock into first (wouldn't before) it sometimes misses park now. So I've already had it roll on me a couple times after shutting it down... But they got the cable in and the quote to replace the whole assembly was $700 labor ain't cheap at $149/hr.

Seems weird to not have any infill in the headache rack, but otherwise, very nice.

Dislike the boxes under the bed

 

Saw this one recently, a bit different. Rack seems very tent specific though. 2001, twin stick, over on ExPo. Not my thing, but I can see how someone could make it work.

That is a bed style I could use (minus the roof rack).

Need the flat bed with sides so steel sits in place. Light and simple, I dig it.

 

Better, no giant dovetail either

 

Yeah the rack part is funky (if you don't need a tent) but the flatbed itself would work.
If I had drop sides though I'd def want them either level with the floor when they're down horizontal to make sliding easier, or better yet, just full drop/fold like a ute bed.

 

Toolbox on passenger side was a good fit too

 

Flatbed, fuel cell and tool box up front, sides that can come off and be used as a ramp, winch mount up front also to pull things onto the bed

 

Sounds good. Clean and simple. And adaptable.

 

Now I just need the truck to build it on

 

I grounded the starter motor directly to the battery and it's engaging properly. Now it's not getting any fuel

 

@Kwikvette not exactly sure what happened recently but steel here is now ~200 for a 4x8 in 3/16 mild and ~120 for a 4x4 of the same.

good thing I loaded up the other week on those comiefornia prices lol


it had been roughly those prices for the last 4 years since just after covid craziness slowed up.

I'll need 16 gauge to use for a lighted sign for the kid's playroom, along with using it to create some "covers" for a 1st Gen Tacoma bed.

Buddy wants to cover his shock towers/mounts as they protrude through the bed.
