Glad I didn’t take the 2025 underground OR Premium they wanted me to take today, assuming they could even sell it to me in Canada.

I wonder what it will be 18" wheels that will add clearance Toyota has been showing a different wheel in ads. Will it be a reroute of the hose? That would seem more permanent and solve the issue long term and keep the 17" wheels.

Hybrids aren't included and I'm guessing both coil and leafs trucks with 17" wheels are impacted. I'm wondering if trucks are still being built the same way I thik a design and part change would already be in the works.

The press release from Toyota says “Toyota dealers will replace both rear brake hoses with improved ones at no charge to customers.”

I agree. Just replacing with the same length hose and same bend radius but with SS braided hose just increases the time it takes caked on dirt in the inner wheel to abrade through it as you drive. Considering car manufacturers pinch every penny in every component in the cost of vehicles, if they could have installed a 1-2" shorter hose from the start, without exceeding its safe bend radius, they would have. The fix is going to cost them way more than they thought they were saving over the production life.

Amazing how a team of engineers couldn’t foresee this being a problem during development and prototype testing

That's what I was thinking. I think the last QA would notice there could be a problem when they inspect the trucks, if it's with in spec there wouldn't be nothing to fix. I'm guessing it was noticed and trucks went to production anyway.

Nobody wants a reputered brake line, but it doesn't sound like it's causing issues on every truck and is not that big of a problem.

The next time someone posts about how the Toyota engineers know best, just post this pic. First time I saw that I thought “ that’s not going to work.” At least Toyota acknowledges this.

Dealer: There are roughly 5,000 units under this hold in Canada.
Once your vehicle lands on ground the recall will be fixed before delivery if your unit falls under the recall VINs!
People are talking April for a fix.
Would it not just be better for Toyota to start installing 18” rims on the OR until the brake line fix is rolled out?

Can’t see that happening. In my case - and many, many others - they’d have to change rims AND buy me (specifically spec’d for my use) winter tires.

this, my guess its they will just replace with like some stainless-steel lines, and maybe a slightly different route

Just use 19 inch wheels with low profile tires and never drive through mud.

this is a non issue and no need to overreact.

Replacing the brake lines for existing trucks in the April timeframe makes more financial sense. In the meantime why not install 18” rims on OR for new production and keep them rolling. If they don’t start shipping OR’s until April mine may not arrive until June. I need the truck before then.
Or at least give us the option to upgrade.

Absolutely not. He should have engineered the damn brake line better. It was reported last July for heavens sake.

I always wondered why the build tool allows you to add the 18" TRD black wheels to a limited but not to a TRD-OR. Maybe they will change that now. But they probably don't have enough inventory of that wheel to do it in large quantities.

Anyway, it seems to me they have to implement "the fix" on every vehicle since they don't control what size wheels any future owner might put on the truck (or whether they or another future owner ever drive though mud).

It seems to me there are more tire choices in the 17 than in the 18. Size and grade. That was my impression when shopping for my 18s. Someone can correct me.

Why? Unless you really don't need it, you should've grabbed it while you had the chance.
