My sister wants to make a tool that she uses in knitting and try to sell them. I’d be making useful tool type brackets and things like that. No masks or figurines.

For anyone wondering: I forgot to seal the BSM plugs when I did my bumper and they corroded and shorted causing my issues.

Hopefully it’ll run like a top for a bit

I got the a1 single and regret not getting the AMS/combo. There are somethings I’d print if I could just do multi colors.

It’s really easy to use and they have their own app and computer design program to print from. Can print from either. It’s really my 12 year olds printer and he’s gotten the hang of it. I can’t say for sure about the filament types, but I think the PLA is fine. I’m not printing high strength stuff. If you’re planning on printing and selling, it could be worth it.

From opening the box to first print was 20-30 min. Very user friendly, like the iPhone for 3d printers. Have not ran into any issues.

Check out the app and see what’s already available. https://apps.apple.com/app/id1625671285

So comparing those two printers they could both print the same filaments with the right bed selection. Whether you can print a filament well or not comes down to basically 3 things. Hotend temp, Bed temp, and if the printer is enclosed (or even a heated chamber).

I typically use this resource to look at a new material or select a material for a certain part.
    https://www.simplify3d.com/resources/materials-guide/properties-table/

You mention abs, the main difficulty with abs is it will warp off the heated bed if the printer is in a place with drafts(hence why a enclosure is recommended for either printer)

I have a artillery sidewinder x1, great printer. Needs a little bit of tinkering to get working right but it has been great for printing large parts. I built a cabinet for this in college and could print most materials other than nylon and polycarb.
    upload_2025-2-7_7-25-2.png

2nd one is a kingroon k3ps, well designed cheap little printer. Nothing too notable other than the price. Definitely needed a little tinkering to get goin.

3rd is a bambu p1s with AMS, great printer. Setup took like 5 minutes and prints perfect, very impressed with this printer. Its as close to an appliance that ive seen so far

You are probably going to want to primarily print PLA and PETG, neither are finicky other than PETG is hydroscopic.

What's your use case? Just for funsies or are you planning to do real shenanigans with it?
Have you ever used one before?

Thank you. Very helpful. I was looking at the P1P. Cost is obviously a concern - always is but buy once, cry once. I envision printing similar stuff.

Yes, I used to use one at work before retirement. I plan on printing useful tools and mounts, etc. No figurines or helmets.

AH, okay - my only input was going to be start small if you've never used one. Seeing one and thinking "Oh that's cool I want one" with zero experience - a lot of people don't realize the level of chaos they're about to get in to.

Otherwise, I can't add more than Jack already did

I dont have any hands on experience with the A1 but it looks like you should have a similar experience to me with the p1p.

The main difference I see is the motion system so the P1 series can print alot faster and is slightly nicer to use. No big deal to me.

IMO prusas are not worth the money they are charging, lazy design but their software is very good. You wont have issues but that is not where I would put my money.

Not sure if you'll care but one downside of the bambu is all your prints go to a cloud which the company has access to. I dont really care, they can have the model I took 4 minutes to design and I am not printing firearm parts like some people are

I read on Bambu’s site that you supposedly can run on LAN mode only. I’m not printing firearms either. I’m really leaning on the P1S as it has an enclosure and is only $110 more than the P1P with an improved stepper motor per the website. I’d prefer Prusa and get something not made in China but the cost differential is too much.

Ah I didnt know that. I personally dont care at all but people bitch about it all the time.

IMO bambu doesnt make the typical chinesium copycat product. They actually engineered it really well and its a pretty big leap forward in consumer 3d printers. I am very willing to support companies like that no matter what country they are made in

Are Prusas still made with COTS parts? I remember back when I was using them it was custom fittings, but using COTS threaded rods, shafts, nuts, bolts, etc etc. And, the custom fittings and hardware were uploaded online so you could print your own as well.

There is/was a rumor that Bambu is close to releasing a new model printer but no idea other than that.

Here are 2 FB groups that might help-

Bambu owners A1/a1 mini owners- Im sure there is a group for the p1s as well.

Do you sew with a machine or by hand? I have a Consew walking foot machine that does leather.

Almost all my leatherwork is hand stitched, because I almost exclusively saddle stitch, which no machine as far as I know can do. I have an ancient Singer that will happily sew anything that fits under the foot with the exception of some modern fabrics, which it happily destroys in a most unpredictable and unsalvageable fashion. I've thought about getting a machine set up specifically for leather but to be honest part of the gag for me is doing everything by hand. Same reason I haven't made a press or a pattern clicker yet and still cut everything out of sides with a crescent knife and scalpel.
