I love it, my Daughter’s pup will come to me from across the yard and stay with me while I am outside and is my Granddaughter’s shadow so I am happy about that

I spent a few years training dogs. The worst bites came from small dogs.

Someone abandoned mom and her puppies at work once. One of the sales guys brought them inside and took care of them until they were old enough to go home. He found homes for all of them. He kept mom and one of her pups who ran around the shop when they weren’t at home. They were some kind of chihuahua mix—cute little things and when I’d take Riley to work, they’d keep him in check. Good ball players too.

not inacurate, dogs being pack animals by nature will watch over other pack members when they are going to keep them safe, which is why when you teach a puppy to go outside only, standing in one spot and not moving helps them to feel calm going outside and they will learn. which is why my 4month old puppy will growl at himself in my bathroom with the big mirror in view to "protect me" from well our reflection

Reflections are a slightly different thing. Dogs are not self aware and they depend a lot on their sense of smell to recognize others. Puppies are more likely than older dogs to react to the mirror--puppies will try and play-bow or sniff for recognition. Sometimes, they growl. Very generally speaking, older dogs are less likely to respond. When peeing, they stand in the same place to maximize the scent they leave behind--if you notice, males especially, will pee on more or less the same things on a walk.

yes, im aware i forgot about puppies and mirrors, since my last 2 dogs, were much older when they passed.

I'm currently teaching my puppy to pee in new places, little guy will poop on a shorter walk or hike but will not pee. but will absolutely attempt to flood the yard as soon as he gets home, stood at a trail head near my home for 20min while my dog sniffed and was hoping to get him to pee but I wanted to actually finish my walk

    Yeah.
Some dogs are easier than others. Our Shiba Inus were super easy. Our older male did it once as a pup while I was looking right at him, maybe just to test me. He knew what he did and ran, and I found that the Shiba Scream is real. He never did it again. He won't even pee in a campsite, I have to walk him outside the perimeter (and he must ALWAYS do a thorough perimeter check once we get settled). Our female never went in the house even once until more recently when our 16 year old Brussels lost his sight and occasionally has an accident (our fault for not catching his signals). She found it necessary to mark the location as well. She seems to hate him but is protective of him at the same time.
