Sweet, we just wrapped the emblem in clear PPF. I'll have to do a search to see that grill painted.

I see some have painted it matte black, but I think it needs a bit of dimension, so not totally flat might highlight the design a bit

The wife wrapped the grill with the same graphic ppf as the rest of the truck and also applied plastic gutter guard to the inside of the truck.

Maintenance day! The tacoma hits 40k, so I decided to do all the fluids.

    Oil change with amsoil 0W-30
Front and rear diffs with triax 75w85
    Transfer case with 75W Ravenol
    Coolant flush with SLC
    Trans fluid exchange WS
Power steering fluid exchange with Dexron

    Did a few things today.

Partial long range America tank install :

    20250103_191255.jpg

Here's a picture of the stock 21 gallon vs the LRA 33 gallon. I went ahead and painted the tank with a few coats of bed liner. Our experiences with a long range tank has been excellent - the freedom of not having to worry about gas every 200 miles or so when remotely exploring is such a priceless feeling. The stock tank wasn't too much of a hassle to remove. Two connectors, two evap hoses, and the gas filler neck. The install will continue tomorrow as I'm waiting for the bedliner to completely dry.

    Photo_2025-01-03_10-34-47_PM.png

A set of billet SDHQ battery terminals will be going on the tacoma, but first we had to get rid of the weird factory crimped ring terminal that shared two ground wires. A few crimps later and we have separate terminals on the ground side.

    20250103_165046.jpg

I installed a hayden transmission cooler with an iconic fab bracket. Here's my attempt at trying to utilize a 10" fan I had laying around. With that failure, I have a 7" fan that I hope will work. We'll be piping this trans cooler with a magnefine filter.

    That's it for now.

Curious why the bedliner on the LRA tank? Sounds like you have used them before, did you have issues with the stock tank paint durability?

I have a LRA tank coming next week and plan to install myself - were you able to do that with the truck on jack stands? Did you pull the bed as well?

Yeah it's a steel tank so there can be rust issues.

The truck is on a 2 post lift. The instructions from LRA are abysmal and the included pictures are god awful. We had lots of missing hardware, which is ironic since it comes with a packing sheet that was signed off by one of their employees. You'll need to remove the exhaust and move the driveshaft out of the way for full access if you aren't removing the bed.

Good to know, thanks for the info!

I'll be sure to check the hardware list BEFORE I start to make sure I don't have any issues.

I installed a hayden trans cooler with a 7" fan on an iconic fabrications bracket. I also plumbed a magnefine filter. I will change it at 15k and tear it open to assess filtration. If it looks OK, then I'll push it to 20 or 30k.

    20250106_224028.jpg

We took the tacoma for a test drive & refuel after filling the long range tank with 5 gallons of fuel. We managed to fill the tank with 26 gallons, which tracks on other owners experiences with the LRA tank.

Next mods on the do to list to wire up an auxbeam switch panel with some lights.

I'm curious how you routed the lines to/from the Hayden as you have one of the later models without the Toyota external trans cooler. Looking to do this soon on my '23.

Also just a heads up since you mentioned adding a Supercharger later, for a Magnuson at least, the low temp radiator mounts to that ridge of sheetmetal where you mounted the trans cooler and filter.

In looking at mine, I was thinking longer bolts and some 1/2" to 1" spacers behind the trans cooler mount would clear the Magnuson radiator.

greetings. Top inlet into radiator goes into inlet of hayden, then outlet of hayden goes into inlet on the top of the radiator.

I don't think I'll be going with a magnusson. I don't like how the entire supercharger bracket completely covers the alternator

Managed to fit 3x 7" auxbeam Ray L pod lights on the front of the tacoma. The goal is to run a minimum amount of lights as possible. No ditch lights, no lights in the grill, no light bars.

Here is a photo of the 7" auxbeams with the white DRLs. Big shout out to my buddy CB for helping us choose a lighting combo.

There is a pair of baja squadrons in the fog light cutouts on the backwoods adventure bumper. I'm not a big fan of it's light output or color. It just seems to spill everywhere. DSC00003_1 (3).jpg

What is the interior height for the cap. Looking at getting one and it looks like there is enough headroom in there. thanks

@clueless200 - Diggin both rigs. Curious about the affects on the Taco's drivability with the Block on back.

I would like to ditch my sungtop for the alucab modcap, but hesitant about the wind affect and noise on the dbsb with a moonroof.

The wind noise was pretty bad with just the modcap. We have the tent on there now and it's been pretty quiet. With a roof rack and a roof spoiler, I'm sure that would cut noise down even more.
