Install a lock on your glovebox from a 4Runner and a lockable fuel door.

So many replies about the LBJ's. Does Toyota still honor this recall? It seems to me if you sent Toyota an email stating that this worried you and your safety, and it's a known problem, and they refused to fix it that would be a honey hole for the lawyers.

    Anyone dealt with this?

I went by my dealer whose records showed my ball joints were replaced in 2006. There was no mention of whether the recall remained active. I'm curious to know too.

If it's never been done (and it would show if the recall was marked as completed by the service department), then they would honor it. If it's been completed, they're not going to do it again for free.

Here's the letter that went out originally. Have to love how they describe it as a 'scratch'.

They do make it perfectly clear that the lower ball joint is a wear item and does need to be inspected and replaced periodically. So, like my kid's 3rd grade teacher used to tell his students, "that's on you dude".

Only thing putting me off from the sunglass holder is the shape of the headliner having a deep curve that interferes with the plastic (at least on my '02 double cab). Did you have to cut the headliner in order to get it to fit? Reason I ask is because the same year Hilux Surf has a digital inclinometer instead of the sunglass cubby, but otherwise is the same.

Somebody was definitely looking after you that day. 65 mph and the truck didn't flip like a nascar wreck. You sir have a guardian angel watching out for you. Glad that you weren't seriously injured, and the truck didn't sustain any more damage than that.
