Terminal Fuse vs Circuit Breaker

    Hi all, I’ve decided to go with a Garmin PowerSwitch to control my accessories. Trying to decide whether to go with terminal fuses or a circuit breaker set up. Power Trays offers kits with one or the other.

    I was also looking at the bracket/kit offerd by Blaze Off-Road. They only offer a terminal fuse option.

    I emailed Blaze asking their thoughts on using a circuit breaker. This was their reply..

    “For the fuses vs. thermal breaker: We are a big believer in flooring manufacturer recommendations that are put forth by the engineers who design their products. The PowerSwitch, like other modern switching systems is all MOSFET based, because of this the engineers spec out for main power to be run through a fuse, not a thermal breaker. Current flows differently through a breaker than it does a fuse and it can cause issues with the computers in the switching system, for this reason we follow their requirements and use a fuse.”

    I’m a total dimwit when it comes to auto electronics. So I thought I’d get your opinions. I emailed Power Trays and they had never heard any negative feedback in using a CB to protect the PowerSwitch. I would think a fuse would provide better protection?

    From my stand point being an electrician I would go thermal if possible.
    I've had breakers not pop when I short the circuit out. It's hesitant to tip where as a thermal pop instantaneously The only problem is you're going to have to carry fuses
