I didn't know he had those for 2G! I had one of them in my 3G...and felt very validated when I wound up putting the truck back to stock and didn't have wiring to reverse. :D I already have the DIY parts but good to know this is an option.

It was a bit more delicate than expected but I did manage to depin the terminals for this case swap, so I'll be able to do those without cutting as well; only question would be if the Experimental utilizes any of those wires, but unlikely I would think.

I figured ive had my truck for 10 years. No plans on selling. And it would be pretty hard to go back to stock. Ive cut holes in the floor of the cab, holes in the roof, cut bedsides, etc.

@moon22 look up the instructions on how to install a roof rack on an access cab. Requires you to drill 12 holes in the roof. And then imagine changing your build, and having to reverse that (its what i did)

I agree and strive to modify vehicles with that in mind, especially since Toyota's wiring and electronics are so good and the vast majority of problems only ever seem to occur when people mess with things. That said, as soon as the hole was cut in my floorboard and there wasn't any turning it back to stock any way, soldiered and heat-shrunk connections, along with good notes and labeling on the wires will have to due from here forward.

My sentiments exactly. The integrity of OEM termination and connections is not something I wish to tamper with; although I have everything I need to do it, it's an "only resort" option for myself.

I'm currently looking at finding a 4WD module to dissect and "convert" for this purpose, or I also pinged the locker harness guy to see if a pigtail or second harness would be available to allow me to make my own plug and play setup for all this (assuming both of those connectors are the same - haven't looked that closely yet).

Hmmmm yeah no thanks haha. Maybe...mayyybe if I lived in the southwest where rust isn't a problem. But I had a roof rack on my 3G and used it 0 times, so no desire there at least!

To each their own I guess, I'd never do any of that to mine. Even my 84 F250 I keep pretty much un-modified aside from an aftermarket radio but I kept the stock one along with the bezel, I did put a Sniper EFI on it because I got sick of dealing with the carburetor.

I also am not a fan of messing with factory wiring, but the fact is that the design for the 4wd system is overly complex and unreliable. So the risk of tampering with the OEM wiring outweighs the risk of hoping the system is going to work in the factory state. Converting to a mechanically controlled transfer case and divorcing the interlocks and 4WD ECM/selector switch is something I would recommend to anyone if they intend on using the 4wd system and want it to work every time.

I'm picking up a fj case Monday. Really looking forward to this. My truck is a 2014 regular cab 5spd, does anyone know if the 4wd light wiring is the same for my 2014 as it is in the earlier 2nd gens?

I also have a 2014 (although it was a 4.0L auto) but found the wiring and colors to be the same as what's listed in this thread when I did my T-case swap.

No the 5spd 2.7 doesnt require an input shaft swap. The output for the trans matches the 23 spline on the part time FJ case

Mine bolted right up.. but i think some of the earlier t-cases do have a slightly longer coupler. I guess it depends on what you get

You shouldnt have to swap anything but t-cases and sensors off your old case actuator. That will bolt up

Good to know. So the sensor plugs from the taco case will plug into the fj plugs? Wiring the dash lights pretty simple?

Yeah you can just remove the old FJ position sensors and swap the ones off your taco case in so that everything from your taco harness will plug right in.

Wiring the dash lights is not hard since your truck came from the factory as 4wd. There is great info buried in here somewhere. But its basically taking a few wires behind the glove box at the 4wd ecu and wiring them directly to the position sensors.
