When I install my new drive belt on my 2020 Tacoma will I have to worry about the crank pulley rotating in any direction when installing or removing the drive belt. Like sliding it around while it's on the crank pulley? Or is that very difficult to happen. Thank you guys. Just a bit worried if I yank on the belt while adjusting. I’ve done it before but not on my Tacoma . I’m at 50k rn

Not if you do it while the engine isn't running

I know what you're talking about and there's basically zero risk with tacoma.

All the same, just keep appendages out and you'll be good.

I do it all from underneath with a 14mm wrench.

Here is a video where the guy leaves the camera recording in real time so you can see how long it takes.

I should probably get around to replacing the belt and battery as my truck is 8 years old.

These belts typically last at least 100K, just see if there are cracks and/or they make noise when cold and wet outside.

It’s easy to inspect a belt. I see no reason to replace one based on miles and hours alone. Please correct me if I’m missing something.

OP, I’m not sure what you are worried about. Are you worried about messing up the timing of something? If so, there is nothing to worry. Valve timing is controlled by a chain is inside the front cover of the engine. The drive belt on all engines is for rotating things like the alternator, water pump, fan, a/c compressor, etc., none of which needs a timing adjustment.

Regardless, it’s really hard to rotate an engine via the crank pulling. You would need to put a wrench on it and pull hard. Watch some vice grip garage videos on YouTube.

Exactly, easy to inspect and they last around 100K miles easy. Factory ones, aftermarket ones I am not sure about.

Plus it’s not like a timing belt on an interference engine that might cause a catastrophe when it fails. The worst thing that could happen is that you get stranded for a bit.

After a few off road trips the start the squeal because of the dust.
