Not 100% sure here. I’ve never heard of people having issues with the coupler being too long. Your safest bet is to get a part time 4wd case out of an 07-14 FJ cruiser. Those will bolt right up and you don’t have to worry about it. The cases ive seen with a longer coupler are out of the 3rd gen 4runners

Ok yes thanks you. the one i ordered is from a 07-14 part time tc off a fj cruiser. I just didnt know if i needed to swap out couplers being that my truck is the 4cyl 5sp and most information out is for a 4.0 auto/6sp. It doesn’t seem like a hard job anyways looking at turbos toybox video

never heard of this in anybody doing the swaps ever. Seems unnecessary. I’m betting that the output shaft of the transmission has enough take up to be able to slide the FJ case on in the factory state with the slightly longer fj coupler on there. It’s easy enough to try and make sure case mates up flush than trying to remove those couplers. They don’t come off easy and that guy in the video certainly Jerry rigged it

first one is on my build page https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-build-thread-v3-0.128687/page-6#post-5224695 basically welded a bignut to the sleeve and then put a piece off all thread in it and made a slide hammer and it came right of.

the second one i think i just hit it off with a chisel or punch. it was easy i know that. the first one we tried beating it off with a punch but it didnt move a bit.

Ive heated them up with a propane torch and the pulled it off with some channel locks.

i just realized, I put an R156F in my truck so I think you guys with the 05-15 5spd R155F do need to remove the coupler. I remember removing mine and then having to put it back on bc my trans was output was different than expected. Apologies for the misinformation earlier.

a bearing splitter will make easy work of it. The old one just weld a large nut to and use a bolt to press it off the splines

That's what I was thinking. Plus in the video I posted, that truck is a 4cyl 5spd.

    Should be. I've got a 4Runner case (from a 2020 Trail Edition 4Runner)

I swapped the input shaft due to mating it to a 6spd manual tranny. If you've got an auto tranny, you don't have to swap the shaft.

It's possible. I'm doing it to my 5 spd, I believe the coupler on our 5 spd is longer than the fj coupler.
