    Hi!
Been reading some different threads and wanting opinions on what I should do with my truck. It’s got two spots with frame rust and pops out of second gear at times. Wondering peoples opinions on what it’s worth. Or is this something I should part out instead? Or….. should I have my buddy who welds take a crack at it after I remove everything. I’m just really busy with work and a toddler so unsure if I wanted to tackle this project right now. Thanks in advance for the input !!!

Dude..that's not a spot of frame rust. That's a huge ass crack rotted out.

You might be able to do it with Saf T Caps but I'm no expert..that scares me TBH looking at that picture.

Ya I didn’t describe that perfectly I know it’s cracked lol I’ve stopped driving it since finding that. I see online they sell pieces of frames so I could cut out cracked portion possibly and weld new pieces on? Alignment seems like a huge issue doing that though. Just looking for ideas. New territory for me here.

That would be the Saf T Cap option perhaps, I have heard of it being used here (MA) but not sure how bad the rot was. YMMV.

Your friend might be able to do something with it of course, but good move not to mess with it until that's done. Not sure re the alignment piece but I'd suspect it's doable still since they do sell those caps for the front section.

Unethical me says try and trade in that sinking ship and anything they'll give you and hope someone misses that San Andreas Fault crack on inspection.

Realistically, that is quite the predicament. It kind of looks like a part out situation. Even if you sell it with full disclosure, some schmuck will try and band aid it back together and sell it to some unsuspecting soul to make a buck. That truck shouldn't be on the road again.

Don't sell it privately. That'd be kinda messed up. IMO, the two options are part out the entire truck if you have the space on your property to wait it out or Trade in at a dealer and let them handle it down the road.

Let a dealership take its liability. They have the knowledge (or should) and finances. Wouldn't hurt my feelings to see them take a hit to their bottom line.

Ouch, sorry OP, looks like it was a pretty nice truck. I used the Rockauto/Dorman equivalent of the “saf-t-caps” and have put about 3k miles on with no issues yet. But my frame hole was much smaller and didn’t extend as far forward as yours. You can check out my thread if you want to see the coverage that they provide and if it might work in your situation. Like I said though I’m concerned it wouldn’t cover the entire crack on your frame.
