The hybrid is no different than getting the largest engine available. The same reasons apply, more power and torque. Merging into traffic, lane changes or just straight line performance, it's a blast. Worth every penny.

Well, usually larger engine results in a higher towing capacity. In this case, it's the opposite.

I your someone you needs the few hundred pounds of capacity then you probably should be looking at a larger truck.

If towing was important to me, I wouldn’t be in a Tacoma, hybrid or not.

Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
My understanding is "absolutely". There's more to go wrong (hybrid adds complexity) and a battery with a limited life. Perhaps a Toyota tech will chime in.

OP mentioned towing a teardrop camper so a full size truck isn't a prerequisite even in the mountains.

No, the maintenance schedule is exactly the same—oh, wait, I was wrong. You do have to occasionally clean the vent filters. The hybrid system has a better warranty than the rest of the truck, and Toyota has been building hybrids for decades. Those who say different have obviously never owned a hybrid.

The non hybrid would probably do the job, so the hybrid will probably do it better. I get carried away with putting more truck in front of the trailer. If I'm considering the hybrid for towing I'm also going to consider the many alternatives. The hybrid paired with the turbo might even reduce some of the heat the tt trucks make. Somebody needs to compare the hybrid to the nonhybrid in some of those online towing tests.

Hybrid parts have 8/100K warranty and the battery has a 10/150K warranty.

Tow capacity is 6,500 vs 6,000 but if you're towing a more realistic 5,000, the extra torque from the hybrid is going to make towing much nicer.

Just to close the loop on this thread, I purchased a very lightly used 2024 TrD Off-road premium from a guy that had just purchased it a few months before and lost his job. With a bunch of options and only 3k miles, it was a deal I couldn’t pass up.

I am waiting for Solid State as well and will trade my 24 when it arrives.

With their 5 new battery facilities in the US and 5B investment i believe they are working on miniaturization of Solid State. At the franchise owners meeting they discussed plans to supply other manufacturers to recoup investment and make future profit. My uncle that was there isn't into tech and he said it went over his head. They do have a full electric version test mules out there getting data. And prototype full electric at industry shows. So its a matter of time which sucks considering Toyota always seems to take 10 extra years longer for new tech than other manufacturers (but made up for it in durability). It will be interesting to see what happens and how long it takes.

    $47,900 with the following mods:

    1. Westcott collar lift
    2. Black Rhino wheels and Nitto 35x11.5” tires
    3. Ceramic tint on the fronts and 50% in front windshield
    4. Redline hood struts
    5. Lasfit all weather mats
    6. NYTOP axle dump exhaust (not installed yet)
    7. PPF on lowers

Nice truck that I’m happy to have with the mods on this one at the price I paid. I have already pulled off the 35s that had 700 miles and replaced with 285/70-17 Ridge Grapplers for a better ride and better mpg. I love the softex and premium interior.

I’m even happier to be back in a Taco after my Frontier was totaled by a careless tech at Discount Tire.

Here is a pic with the 285s.

In California, would the hybrid put you into a heavier weight fee when it came tine to register the vehicle? With similar 0-60 times I'm trying to figure out what is the best option as well.
