Brake line recall

I'm sorry, but the image of LED's on something like that made me giggle more than I should have

 

If you are still hyperventilating over this one, I’d suggest breathing into a paper bag, and driving you truck just as you normally would. That is, if you actually own one…hmmm.

The only people significantly affected by this recall today are people who want a Gen4 right now, and the same chronically unhappy YouTube clowns who are doing somersaults as they collect your clicks.

 

Amen….but it is funny to watch some of the meltdowns out on the internet about this.

 

It'll probably take them at least a month to write the repair process including capturing and reusing the brake fluid, then get 19 levels of internal approval on the process, then potentially have to buy extra capture equipment and send to dealers to handle the volume.

I presume the truck has a dual reservoir master cylinder so in the worst case you just lose rear stopping power, which is a fraction of the front. I also presume, among the zillions of sensors, there's one or more sensors that would pop up with a rear brake fluid low warning, so you wouldn't be in the dark and could adjust your driving accordingly.

I vaguely remember a video on changing the brake fluid on a Gen-3 where, for the off road models, you needed to connect a scan tool to toggle some solenoid. No idea if that still holds for the Gen-4.

 

Maybe the back log is over or it was due to different engines but I thought LC 300 orders were paused because Toyota couldn't build enough due to demand. I was wondering how is Toyota goind to build and deliver Lexus LX 700s if they couldn't build enough LC 300s?

You laugh but I was thinking people won't be able to put those LED light rings in the wheels if the brake hoses are in the way.

 

Still should have been caught and addressed early on. 25s that were delayed past the normal new car releases were sent out with out the hoses being replaced and are subject to the recall.

I would not be worried about the recall either if I had a truck in the effected range. The 4G isn't the 1st truck Toyota has ever built with rear discs. The issue should have presented itself during R&D and fixed before production.

The Prerunner which is Rwd but does come equipped with a rear locker isn't being recalled. Obvious a truck equipped with a rear locker could get driven offroad is not included in the recall.

If Toyota does not fix every truck with the problem lines regardless of wheel size and drive type. Toyota hasn't completely fixed the problem.

 

When 3rd gen came out the 2nd gen people were so excited on every recall released, its just repeating the process now.

Recalls happen, if anything it's a good thing that these issues are caught. I watched 2nd gen leaf springs cut brake lines and puncture gas tanks. It took too long for toyota get the recall issued.

 

LC300 orders were paused in Australia for ~2 years because Toyota allocated plant capacity to build more profitable LX600s for the US market In any case it shouldn't be an issue now, as Toyota simply uses the Hino plant for additional volume if needed.

 

Would you like to see how it's routed on the GX550? Ask any upper middle-class mallcrawling housewife, it don't matter if you clear by a millimeter or you clear by a mile, clearance is clearance.

 

106,000 tacomas being recalled that requires one hour of work to fix the potential problem. Add one hour of waiting and 30 minutes of drive time for the owner, and that comes to 265,000 hours, or 6,625 work weeks. If you exclude the mechanic's time, the total hours would be 159,000, or 3,975 work weeks.

It only applies to a finite number of trucks. If it is of interest it will self sticky, like the one just above this that is only about one person's truck.

 

120,000 trucks is what I read. Mine is included. 2024 Offroad Premium with the 17” wheels.

I have an appointment setup for the recall. I plan to call the service department tomorrow or Tuesday to confirm they have the lines needed for the fix.

 

The fix is not available yet.

 

Sounds like the BMW X5 recall. Get in line for parts.

 

No line for parts either. They need to redesign before they produce the parts.

 

Mine is included as well. It's OK. I don't plan to drive in deep mud any time soon. I'll just hose it down after every mud bath.

that is true of literally every recall ever - finite does not mean small. it affects every 4th gen tacoma with 17" wheels. but is it a huge deal? under the vast majority of use cases, probably not.

 

Unless my brake line is rubbing my wheel, I’m probably good for 10 years.
