Agree. Great question if someone got a plug and play solution for the OEM backup camera.

I gave up on the SD recording and switched to dashcam solution instead.

Hello, after reading about 50 pages I couldn’t find an answer. I have an 05 trdof with JBL so it dosent have a factory rev camera . Was wondering if I could get an aftermarket rev cam for this unit? Probably would need some sort of harness? Thanks.

yes, you will need a camera and harness to run between the camera and head unit
also a handle form later model that did have a camera or a Pop-N-Lock handle that takes a camera

did you end up finding something that worked with the tailgate handle? Any extra harness needed?

    https://a.co/d/64kaybe

thinking maybe this would work(above link).Seems like plugging that rca could work with the joying unit and then just wiring ground and reverse in the back

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBX39S8M

If you look at the camera joying sells(above link), if dosent even have a wire to connect to the purple one on the unit(shown below).

I bought a different camera but never installed it. I ended up taking the Joying unit out in order to have something that plays discs.

Picked up the used Joying sold above and am stoked.

My understanding is backup cam input on the Joying headunit is RCA and the factory Toyota output is something else. I'd like to keep the OEM wiring and connector intact. Does anyone have a link to the OEM backup camera connector type or a link to an OEM to RCA pigtail?

I can't seem to find that info this morning. Thanks in advance.

Well, it looks like Amazon and Crutchfield both have a wiring harness that converts part of the factory wiring harness to RCA (although it looks like you will need to add switched 6 or 12v+/- so it's not 100% plug and play). @apoteker is going to send me one for free. Thank you!!

Question for anyone using the 9" head unit with the external microphone (the one that came with the unit from Joying). I've gotten many complaints that callers are getting an echo on their end. Is it the microphone itself? Is it where I have it positioned (secured to the outside of the overhead console next to the sunglass holder)? Has anyone had luck with a different external microphone?

    Any advice is appreciated!

I have a Kenwood double din installed with mic on a-pillar. It echoes. Didn’t matter where I put it.

Thanks, keep us posted on your findings. I’m going to pull the harness on my tailgate and see what connector I have.

I have the external mic on mine, no complaints of echos just that it is hard to hear. I don't quite have to yell, but definitely need to raise my voice when using it. Usually I'll just take the call on speaker to avoid the issue.

Hey guys, wanted to help anyone out with SWC in second gen Tacoma with jbl system. I have an 05 could be different with 2.5 gens.

I followed many peoples advice with switching the plugs in the back from key&can out (which is how it comes from Joying) to can in&can out. That didn’t work and wouldn’t let me program. I switched the plugs back to how it came from joying(key&can out) and that immediately worked. Really weird that it’s different for the same gen of truck and jbl speakers. But yeah hopefully that helps!

Hello, I have an 05 taco. What made my SWC work for me is connecting the key and can out plug in the back of the unit. For others, connecting the can out and can in worked for them.

Try both of those. If that dosent work make Sure you have your vehicle programmed in the factory settings. Go to system-factory(password 8888)-change model-raise-Toyota-Toyota. Should work now.
