Battery expected life

I just started a job where temperatures are dropping to below zero numbers, like negative 2.
The 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-road still has the factory battery. I'm picking up a new Interstate Battery end of this week
I figure I might be over cautious replacing a less than 4 year old battery but don't realy want to gamble.
What life have others gotten out of their batteries from the factory???

 

Mine lasted just over 4 years.

I’d recommend getting a portable jumper too, just in case. It’s helped on a number of occasions, mainly letting others use it so I don’t have to connect their batter to mine and f something up hooking it up wrong.

 

Mine's a 2019 and still going... but I did feel it starting to get weak about 2 years ago so I hit it with the NOCO charger desulfination setting and so far so good.

I'll second the lithium jump start pack, cheap insurance. Plus they're handy for starting up lawn mowers and motorcycles etc. whatever needs a 12v and for emergency phone charging.

 

My 4.5 year old OEM battery is still kicking on my 2020. Recently we have been experiencing lows of -8c or 17.6f. I'm thinking of replacing my battery this year. However, my battery has never been run flat. I make sure to turn the lights off the truck asap whenever possible. I daily drive so the battery doesn't sit for long periods of time.

 

3years … I live in extreme heat and run a amplifier off it . So not terrible .

 

In the desert: 2 years regardless of what I put in it.
Being the cheap-azz-bstard I am I buy the NeverStart from WMart.

First week of June every-other-year I buy 3 batteries for 3 vehicles.

Come June of this year you'll find me at Wmart ...

 

I’ve had to replace batteries living in the deep south every two or three years, they tend to do better in moderately cold, but extreme cold tends to kill them as well.

 

Mine went about 5 years.

 

Extreme heat and extreme cold are what kills batteries. At 4 years, you are near the end, but since you are never more than 5 miles from the nearest battery retailer, why would you replace it before it goes bad?

 

My factory battery developed a bad cell at 33 months. Got a free new battery under warranty. My replacement is over 6 years old. I do carry a jump box in my truck for when needed.

People should treat batteries as regular routine maintenance and replace them at certain intervals. The environment where you live is the primary determinant of battery life. Hot desert environments like Arizona battery life is generally 2 to 3 years. Where I live in Northern California 5 years or so is normal battery life span. I replace my batteries at the 5 year point. I do not wait for them to fail . I think it’s just dumb to wait for your battery to fail to replace it. You don’t really save any $$. And when you wait for them to fail before replacing they almost always fail at a really bad time or place.

Was being proactive because of its age.
I've always replaced OEM with Interstate.

 

This May will be my 4-year mark.

I'm having my Sport serviced in April and I will have them do a Battery Check.

Not sure which brand I will replace it with.

 

I don't fuck around, I'm a 5 year guy.

 

Batteries usually last around 5 years here. Interstate lead acid batteries from Costco have a decent warranty.

 

heh, I just replaced my OEM battery from 2017. But I know that's an outlier.

 

2018 TRD OR. I purchased the truck in October 2021. It had the original battery. I just replaced it in January 2025. So I got maybe 6-1/2 years out of it? She was starting to crank slow, so I was taking no chances with the drop in temps...

 

Got 6 years out of the battery in my 2010.

 

Two to five years is typically what you can expect, but it depends on several factors. Mostly temperature, to be on the safe side I carry a portable jump pack.

 

Why? When was the last time you couldn't find a battery? Makes no sense to replace something that is working just fine when replacements are plentiful.
