Went to do an oil change at 150k, last one was at 145k. 300 miles ago I added seafoam to the oil to clear out some sludge. I went to take the oil filter off and barely any came out, I looked in the filter and there was at some point oil that ran through it. There was also a little peice of metal . Cap had heavy condensation. I replaced with Mobil-1 full synthetic. And a Mobil 1 oil filter. I am going to drag a magnet through the oil I drained (super dark for 5k) and see what I can pick up. Do anyone know how to inspect a filter? Truck runs fine by the way.

For the record, I had no problems with the engine leading me to add seafoam (just something I wanted to try). Does anyone have pictures of their oil at 5k? I will send a photo when I get it out of the drain pan into a container.

Seafoam is not meant to be used that way... It's a strong solvent that would have thinned your motor oil.

    It’s designed for oil too.

These, but it looks like carbon build up. Feels like it too.

I bet the the anti-drain back valve in the filter is stuck open or failed.
If the truck wasn't knocking before the oil change, I doubt you have a "serious" issue.

Do your oil change and drive it.
    Then get back to us.

I’m just stressing, I saved up to buy this truck so it would last me and now to think I might have just screwed it up on my first oil change :bananadead:. I’ll YouTube a video on how to check my filter and call it a day.

The filter is mounted upside down on purpose to help you out with less mess during an oil change

All the 3.4s self drained, the 2.2 Camry motors too

I was expecting a ton of oil because people say to use a little bottle under the drain thing.

Was it a Wix oil filter? I stopped using them because every time I went to replace one, no oil drained out. The anti drain feature on those filters is useless. This is with the 4.0

Yes the 4.0, jiffy lube did the last one. I don’t know about the type of filter.

How much seafoam did you use? How long did you run the engine before draining it? I believe the directions on the seafoam can state, 1 oz seafoam per 1 quart of oil. I let the engine idle for about ten minutes, but a couple of times I did drive a short distance. I've added seafoam before an oil change many times, but I stick very close to the directions on the can. I view it like alcohol, a little is okay, but a lot, not so? I think the new Valvoline Restore and Protect may be a better option.

If you want to examine the oil filter, cut top off and pull out the cardboard filter and open up like accordion. :et us know if you see anything.
