Does anybody remember the house that I helped clear out in June of last year, in exchange for what ended up being several hundred dollars worth of scrap and an old York air-conditioner that I sold for $200?

The owner bought it in cash with the intention of gutting it and adding a second floor. Work on the property stalled during the summer, but on Saturday, Amanda and I were driving by; I thought the roof had finally been removed, but it would appear that there were structural issues with the house and they decided to tear it down to the foundation…

 

Yup, sometimes it be that way. I was not going to be shocked if my uncle's old house was leveled.

 

I think that he is salvaging the foundation though, and for some reason he seems to be saving that section of outer wall…

 

That's about to be about 9k worth of lumber lol. I'd save it too.

Seriously though, odd decision there.

 

The foundation of uncle's house is good but the house itself is so outdated re repairs/upgrades to electric, insulation, windows, the list goes

 

That little chunk of wall is worth nine grand?!?!

 

Amanda got me an early Valentine’s Day present!

 

Hyperbole. Hence joke about keeping any lumber that guy could as it is going to get really expensive to replace.

Don't go around trying to scrap houses Charlie...

 

I am satisfied with what the current owner of that house gave me to scrap; I easily made $500 from that place when all was said and done!

People really are a special kind of stupid.

Amanda lives in a very well-established neighborhood consisting mostly of homes built in the 1950s and 1960s, and a few built in the 1970s and 1980s. There is an elementary school just up the hill from her landlady's house, which is located on the right side of the street if you are driving towards the school. It is possible to cut through the school parking lot to get to the other side of the neighborhood, but I never do this.

The house is on kind of a tight angle, and one of the other tenants parks his Hyundai Tucson at the end of the driveway on the left. In order to keep from hitting the Hyundai or tearing up the grass, I always go into the left lane and make a wide turn; I always use my turn signal. This evening at about 7:30, I was making a right into the driveway, and a black Honda Insight (newer 4-door Prius wannabe, not the older 3-cylinder hatchback version) that had been behind me whizzed past me on the right! The car literally went between the right side of my truck and Amanda's driveway. I was going slow enough and at just such an angle that damage to my truck probably would have been moderate at best, but the black Honda was flying and could have ended up in Amanda's front yard or even been jettisoned into the Hyundai.

Accidents happen, but this is in a different category than being rear-ended or sideswiped. There's a good chance that Amanda would have to physically restrain me from beating the shit out of the Honda driver if he'd caused a wreck and damaged my truck! I've had my driver's license for almost 14 years, and this is about the stupidest fucking thing that I've seen someone else do while driving!

 

The old joke in my youth when I wanted to build ramps was construction sites might be a good place for supplies haha..

Supplies, yes. But they never left any hardware, like nails.

Then we had to go raid our parents garages for nails and screw.

You’ve never built an a “real” ramp until you hammered screws in to wood.

Probably catch a Felony doing that nowadays. Or a bullet.

 

Definitely have to be pretty vigilant these days, I don't hardly ride motorcycles anymore unless it is on dirt and I am always watching my mirrors and the distance for people not paying attention so I have a moment to get out of the way.

 

Most likely yes, I built jumps as well as ramps..wedge ramps. Did a mini dirt track across the street from my house too
