Did you by chance measure the overall length of the RC60F transmission? I was going to replace my RA60F transmission with an RC62F but the RC60F seems to have the best ratios of the 3 (im a 2013 DCSB sport) I hate the ratios in my truck, i also dont like the aluminum quill that wears out and squeaks in neutral.

On the risk of sounding stupid, you did this for a ratio change I assume ? You feel this made a big difference to justify this ? I am sorry I did not read your entire post. Lot of time & money to achieve such a small ratio change.

Didn’t need to measure it since it was a direct swap for my RC62F. I want to say it’s been determined that the RC series transmissions are like 1” longer than the RA or something like that. RC are the same length as the 2nd gen auto, even use the same factory front driveshafts.

I've got a good deal on my used RC62F if that interests you at all to get away from the crap quill design. Otherwise, the RC60F is the way to go since you can get it new for a decent price at Black Friday.

In what way is 21% gear reduction down low a small change? That is the equivalent of going from 4.30 to 5.29 rear axle gears.

The entire transmission gearset is different except for 4th gear. Yes, I only did it for the ratios; there is no other reason to do this. There are 0 other tangible benefits. The two transmissions are essentially the same besides one being a close ratio box and the other a wide ratio box.

Would of not been easier to just do a ring & pinion swap like 4:88 or 5:29 ? I don't know what the trans cost but I bet it was big $$$

It was a long post, and I can understand not reading it because of that. In my defense, that was all in my post. I’ve had 5.29s for over 2 years. They are great, but you can only make everything lower across the board, rather than tweak the ratios better. The transmission swap helps change the ratios relative to each other to make them make more sense. The regear improves the low end but in most people’s opinion, ruins the top end. I personally could have lived with 3000 rpm at 70 indefinitely, but most others wouldn’t like that.

A 4.88 regear would make less difference than the transmission ratio changes down low.

I did both the transmission and regear because they both complement each other for my preference. Some others would like only the transmission, I wouldn’t. 6th would be too tall for me. So a regear combined with it makes 6th reasonable and makes the low gears super low, which I like.

People spend about the same on suspension, bumpers, replacing perfectly good parts (sometimes not) Bed setups, camper shells, etc all pretty pricey too. The ratios make so much more sense. I’ve been in a few spots where I’ve had to be in 2lo/4lo, or burn the shit out of my clutch to get going uphill. Camper shells and suspension, bumpers, all pretty quick in easy in comparison. It’s really just the dedication to do the job.
    Op has me thinking though.

and you should read the whole post.

Is it practical to keep the 4th gen clutch fork/TOB setup?

Maybe im missing somthing but it seems like a direct replacement.
    Fitment issues in the bay?

I was just about to pull the trigger on a regear, really glad i came back to this post.
The maggy will love getting above 2500 rpm quicker
Thanks for putting in the leg work

You can't keep the 4th gen TOB or clutch fork, they are specific to the 4th gen bellhousing and that bellhousing does not work on the 3.5L. You have to swap the bellhousing which requires using all the 3rd gen clutch release equipment.

I’ve been trying to get one through Capistrano Toyota, they have a pretty big discount. But the sale never completes. They even offered me 5% more because it’s been in the shopping cart.

Does it let you place the order and then the order later cancels? Or the order just won’t go through at all?

Wonder if it would go through at my dealer again.

I ordered one last week online through a local dealer at about 16% off, shipped to the dealer. No issues at all. I wonder if its a shipping issue. Maybe try calling.
