LS6 Swap 2nd Gen Build + New Tundra

Wanted to wait until today to verify this, but got an alignment done on the 3rd gen. In the instructions for these 3.0 IBP Kings, they tell you you can’t use OEM control arms, and that you have to chop up your brake line and abs wire brackets, which I think is really conservative. Maybe they have to be, but I’m using OEM control arms, and didn’t touch my brake line and abs brackets and everything clears totally fine at full droop and bump and lock to lock. I didn’t touch the preload on the shocks out of the box. I think they’re anticipating people cranking the preload to get maximum lift, hence the reasoning for all the cutting and aftermarket arms.

I’m super pumped about it though. It actually stopped my 285/75/16’s from rubbing in the front. They used to on the TRD pro shocks.

Super solid news!

The Maximum 4L80E is totally fine. I got really lucky with how it happened. All the fluid dumped when the truck was turned off, and when I restarted it, the valve body was completely empty, so no damage occurred whatsoever to any gears.

Core support got doubled up, and the hood pins are in and the brand new hood is super solid.

I got my windshield guy scheduled to come swap out the broken glass, then I’m going to bring this truck by the exhaust shop to get redone, and I will be relisting it!

 

I still think you should give it another chance. There's always bugs to work out when doing a big build. I feel like you gave up on it just before it was mint.

 

We’ll see if it sells or not. There’s still so much to be done. Needs a cage, needs a fuel cell, needs a bunch of small stufff that’s going to nickel and dime me to death. It needs repainted too, which costs a fortune around here.

in hind sight, there is so much I would do differently as far as the LS install. Now I can’t really look past it.

Dude the wrap is getting really REALLY bad. And I keep doing stupid stuff in that truck which warrant a cage.

 

I'm not saying don't do a cage, just saying it sucks to see you give up on it after spending so much time and money building a sick truck and then not really spending any time really driving it. Cage is a sick upgrade that more people should do. But the stock cab will still mostly handle a rollover in the mean time.

 

I guess what I was getting at is I really don’t want to dump any more money into it. Looking back, it’s scary how much went into the truck. So many things I could’ve done with that money that make way more sense. If it doesn’t sell, it doesn’t sell, and I’ll sit on it a while and maybe heart will change. But hear me out:


One of these can be had for like 40k all said and done. It won’t make cool v8 noises, but it’ll probably perform better than my truck would anyways.

I would start driving it when you have the time to do so. I've been daily driving mine for since the end of the summer almost and I still have lots to do. Can't go wheeling yet as I have no 4wd but that will change soon. But hasn't stopped me getting out there and having fun with it after 2 years or so of putting it back together.

Those things you list as needs sound like wants. Can you drive it? Does it stop? Does it have all the necessary functions a vehicle needs to be on the road? If so run it dude. Putting a cage and stuff in it can come later on. Plenty of people have fun in their trucks without a cage - not saying that isn't warranted for safety.

 

While my heart is with these guys, I'm with you here. Off the shelf stuff is EZ fun, and frankly if you're not enjoying the build, spending hours building you could be having fun, and driving the family batty, it's best to pick the path of least resistance.

 

New windshield is in, hood pins and new hood are in, breather lines have been repaired and relocated far far away from anything hot, battery has been replaced. I have an appointment on Friday to have the exhaust remade and fender exit on the passenger side.

Still trying to find someone local to give this thing a $1500 paint job.

Wife is on board with me keeping this thing, but we’ll see what ends up happening. I’m not totally convinced on it.

At the end of the day this thing is just a retarded toy, I need to try and stop making this thing showroom quality and just enjoy it for what it is.

I stripped my reg. cab down the glass and the two rubber strips that go across the roof. Even removed the door handles, belt moldings, mirrors, grill & all lights, fender liners etc. I even prepped, block sand and sand the whole truck w/ 320. All the painter needed was to tape off the glass, shot some sanding sealer, a little guide coat sand it one last time, w 400 or finer, re-tape and shot it. It was $3,500 in cash.

 

I’ve learned I can’t follow the ultra luxury fab guys too closely on social media… definitely get (truck) body dismorphia!

As much of a pain and struggle that you’ve shared, you still got a few badass trucks, one of them being an LS Long travel Tacoma… and a bitchin house!
I’m currently trying to buy my first place, and boy is this a rude awakening. Truck should have a cage too… too many expensive things!

 

How much would a bed liner paint job cost?
