    Hey Fellas,

So I have let my 2000 Toyota Tacoma sit for ab a year without cranking it and it was running fine rt b4 then. So I decide to put a new battery in it and start driving it again. It would crank but wouldn’t turn over and start, it just tried to. I ran my battery down trying to start it. So to keep this from being lengthy I’ll just tell what all I’ve done…
I have replace all of the following: fuel filter, temperature coolant sensor, fuel injectors, ignition coil pack, spark plugs, crank shaft position sensor and the pcv valve.
After all of that it still tries to turn over(it will crank) but won’t start. I have read a lot on here with ppl having problems with this and I have eliminated all I know to eliminate and I have hit a stump trying to figure this out. I also have hooked it up to read the errors, but none show up. If you can help or have insight on something I might have missed, please help…
    Thank you in advance…

    Welcome to TW.

For a year? Did you try draining the gas, or at least put some fresh gas in it? It's a long shot but would be the first place I'd start after a year.

Also make sure your battery terminals are shiny clean.

Perhaps the fuel pump is not working? You can check it by loosening the fuel filter's exit connection ever-so-slightly and then checking to see if fuel comes out.

After you try to crank it and there's no start, can you pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel?

i always look for a spark. i have a spark tool for the purpose. if i have spark, i look for fuel.

maybe a mouse chewed something important?

The fuel gauge was under 1/4 and so I just added ab 1/2 a tank of fresh gas to it.

I bought a small plug tester and after replacing the ignition coils and spark plugs(all6) I tested it, it’s getting spark.
The only thing is, Is the RPM needle suppose to move white it’s trying to crank? I read somewhere where it’s supposed to at least a little bit while it’s trying to start. I read where it may not be getting combustion…‍♂️
But if it’s not getting combustion how do I fix that??

You need air, fuel and spark to get the engine to start.
If your spark plug tester is showing that you're getting spark, I would suspect you're not getting fuel for some reason.

Combustion is created when air, fuel and spark mix so you are not getting combustion because one of those pieces is missing.

The engine needs to see a crank signal (rpm) to command the c/open relay to turn on the fuel pump.

A lack or RPM showing on the tach, is suspect to me.

I’d grab a scan tool and look for RPM when cranking.

Or crack the fuel line open and see if fuel comes out. (Be careful)

in my old car, i would pull an injector and verify a spray. carefully.

not sure it would work on yours. does a spark plug look wet and smell of fuel?

Take a rubber mallet and hit the fuel tank on the bottom and then the side, not hard enough to dent it but hard enought to jar the fuel pumps armature, the see if she starts.

If you've replaced the crank sensor, there's only two components left....
the open circuit relay, fuel pump, and the wiring in-between...

letting any pump set for time is a bad ideal.......thats probably it

just pulling the fuel hose and testing at crank may not tell the whole story

replacing the fuel filter and taping on the tank was a good ideal

make sure all your grounds are good and intact

A jumper wire (ideally fused) at the C/Open relay would make short work of this.

As would a test light. (This would take care of all of it)

What scares me is not knowing what parts were put on it. Were they OEM parts?

There is a lot of potential for “making it worse” built into this whole mess.

Dang it OP. Wish you would have posted here before throwing parts at it.

I did take off my fuel line and then cranked it. Fuel came out, but I will try the rubber mallet idea and chec all the grounds. Anyone have a wiring diagram on where all the grounds are? I’ve googled it but can’t find my specific model.

The new spark plugs I installed were damp and smelled like gas when I checked them.

BTW, i appreciate u guys taking time to throw some ideas my way…..TY

This is for a 2001. But it’s close enough.

Why not just spray some starter fluid in the intake and see if she starts? ‍

The spark. It was a strong spark?

It was sparking “normal” enough to ignite the gas/air mixture, not sure how to determine a strong or weak spark. I’m sure the arc is bigger , but how do u make a spark plug have a stronger ark when it’s a new spark plug? Bigger battery?

Spraying starter fluid in the intake doesn’t really do anything.
I know it’s getting fuel, I removed the gas line at the motor and when I crank it gas shoots out,I removed the new spark plugs I had installed and they were moist and smelled like gas. I tested all the spark plugs and they are getting spark. The RPM needle doesn’t move while it’s cranking trying to start. My first post lists everything I’ve replaced though it may not have been the thing to do, but I think all of it needed replaced just bc it was all original parts that’s looked like they could use it.

I also have noticed that there’s a small fog of gas comming out of the throttle body(I’ve got the air intake hose off) during cranking it.

If your getting fuel and spark ... Have you tried starting it with the throttle pressed to the floor? (Let as much air in as possible)

Mmmmmmmm. Sounds like you are flooded. If it's firing under full throttle. You might have had water in the bottom of the tank. Since you put in fresh gas it's probably mixed in now... It may just take a bit of cranking at WOT.
