Loving my 24 TRD OR Taco...3mos old.

I've been using my Phone Key as my primary key. If I travel remote, I do take a fob. Loving the option of the phone/app key, however, it just seems a bit fussy. I have an iPhone and have set the bluetooth distance to max and the refresh time to max as well. About half the time i have to fiddle with it, open the app, mash a few buttons, etc. to get it to sync. I love the ease of the phone app, but is there a better way to get it to be more consistent, or should I move to the digital card key thing? My wallet is pretty slim, but I guess I could figure something out.

The phone digital key worked great for me until I cancelled the premium subscription I signed up to try for a month. Since then, when the Toyota app is on my phone the app is posting a notification to connect to the truck every 10 sec. Maddening. I deleted the app from my phone, the phone connection in the truck, reinstalled app and reconnected phone to truck and got the same thing. I decided that the key card in my wallet was good enough, along with taking the fob on long trips as well.

Having said all that, I was on the horn with a Toyota customer service agent for another issue, mentioned the phone thing off-hand and they said to call them back any time and they'd help solve the connection issue. Give it a try. The number is 800-331-4331.

I'm in the same boat. The Toyota phone app is extremely finicky and I was caught a mile from my house and after opening the tailgate for some reason I couldn't get the truck to start again. I ended up walking home and getting the digital card. I gave up on the Toyota app.

Toyota has done a few updates lately to the app that has screwed things up. I have seen lots of iPhone users complain but I suspect a lot of that has to do with iOS 18, 18.1, 18.2, 18.3 all rolling out so quickly with a bunch of security setting changes.

id bet this is the case. After the last iOS update my Apple car play had a hard time connecting until i deleted the phone and user and started over like when it was new. I hate when it wont connect and I am on a trip and its snowing on the freeway with no where to pull over to restart the truck. Hours of silent rattles
And me cursing Qa and coders at Toyota.

I've found if you reset the car play/entertainment system if fixes this. Hold down main button for 5 secs or so.

After advice from this thread, I shoved the digtal (card) key in my wallet. Much better.

Thanks for that thought. I'll try that in a couple of weeks. I have a Pixel and it ran an update about the same time this junk started, so maybe after some time for the coders to figure it out things will run more smoothly. The key card works flawlessly for me so it was easy to default to it.

Sweet. Hope it works. The quick reset on the infotainment system has never let me down. And no fiddling with the phone. Takes about 15sec all in all to reboot.

I use the phone app when I’m on the couch and too lazy to get up and go get the FOB when trying to remember if I locked the truck (I’m old). Otherwise, I use the credit card key when on the road. Love it!
