WTF …is the TRD Pro a gateway drug to the Raptor? I came from a 22 SR5 to a 22 Pro, still drive the sr5 and love the Pro but I’m fantasizing about the f150 Raptor. Before I got the Pro I never gave Ford a nano second of thought.

to the op; my only issue with a third gen was the hvac blower in the 2017 I once drove ….I think Toyota fixed it for free ….there may have been a brake vibration issue with the 2017 but I might be mixing that up the with the two 2nd gens I had.

2022 limited bought new in Sept 2022 with 30,000. Recall for weld splatter, other than that zero issues thus far. Bad experience with a free oil change - it was the first oil change, never again. Mine is white, praying the paint stays put. A few folks told me my year model might be okay with the paint issue. Time will tell.

My biggest problem is not having enough free time to drive it, and that problem is being fixed by leaving my job to travel in it.

All I can tell you, is that if you drive your Tacoma out of town you may find yourself wanting more power to pass and just more room in general -hence looking at Raptors.
Just got back from a trip driving from San Antonio to Santa Fe, Roswell, Ruidoso, and back again. Went through all the mountains dirt snow ice you name it. The Tacoma handles so well and the pro suspension is amazing. I really got to put it through its paces. BUT it needed so much more power on the road and legroom for my wife and 15-year-old son. when you look at the raptor inside and out, you can see how much Toyota really ripped off the raptor with the Trd pro. From the shocks all the way down to the shift knob it’s essentially a full-size pro. I’m not really a full-size truck guy at all but the raptor checks the two other boxes that are important. Also makes you realize how crazy the price is on the new 2024+ TRD pros

Not a single problem and not a single trip to the dealer. Just a couple, tire rotations and oil changes, a diff fluid change, and an ATF drain and fill - no other maintenance besides the rustproofing I sprayed on as soon as I got the truck new in 2020.

I have a real problem keeping my front tires on the ground when taking off from a stop or if i accelerate too hard while driving, my rear tires break traction, start smoking and slide sideways.

    Had 3 recalls done.
    1) Squeaky clutch pedal at like 3K miles, been fine ever since. At ~60k miles ATM.
    2) TSS sensor recall. They put some styrofoam around it. It always worked fine since truck was new.
    3) Fuel pemp recall, Replaced fuel pump at like 35K miles. Fuel pump worked fine since truck was new.

So really, my truck had no mechanical issues. Been a very reliable truck and I am not easy on it at times.

People that complain about paint need to realize that all modern vehicles are like that now, unless you buy some high end luxury/exotic/super car. My paint is just fine. Yes scratches easily but who cares, its a truck, gives it character.

Replaced my battery just before last winter. Battery was still showing 12.4 volts, I used it the following spring and beginning of summer for my trolling motor, then sold it for 20$ on markeplace haha.

Rear tailight burnt out last year as well.

    Thats it for my "issues"

You mustve installed an aftermarket COLD air intake and catback exhaust.

    I have the opposite experience.

I drive through mountain passes lots and it still amazes me how much passing power it has. My truck carries constant weight, lifted and running skinny 33s by the way.

That must be whats giving me so much power, also maybe the fact that im in phx, so to keep my COLD air intake working properly, i need to keep a chunk of dry ice in the intake.

On which modern car it doesnt though?

Yes it scratches easily, but I can easliy do a quick cut polish, apply a couple coats of ceramic and it looks amazing again. Ive done that like 5 times over the years, my paint looks amazing considering i take my truck into the bush.

Bull bar with lights, Wheels on stock tires, window vents.
It slow, drinks too much gas. and the third brake light leaky, I also had the roof painted due to a rust spot. Split that cost with the dealer.

Both of my front interior trim panels are separating at the top, where they touch the glass. Noticed it around 10k and just turned 36k. I have an extended bumper to bumper warranty so I’m not that worried about it yet.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
    Bought new in Jan 2016.
    • Rear coolant pipe started leaking at around 80k. I replaced it myself by dropping the tranny. Cost me maybe $150.
    • AC evaporator under dash leaked. $2000 repair out of pocket at around 85k.
    • AC condenser sprung a leak. Replaced that and compressor at around 105k for $2500.
I drive pretty easy but am disappointed in the above failures on something I have taken really good care of.
