I’ve recently had a problem with my ‘07 taco, 150K miles. It started with the oil control valve filters being clogged the OCV solenoids giving out, thus starving the top end of oil and making a crazy, squeaking/ clanking like sound, I parked it and have only started it a couple times since while still doing repairs, I’m narrowing the down possibilities of either the timing chain is jumping or the rods need new bearings. Trying to upload video for you guys of said sound

Welcome to TacomaWorld. Does not sound good if OCV valves were blocked but color me confused...Rod bearings are on the bottom end, how would starving the top end cause that? Does not compute. Have you disassembled anything to know what is really going on? How did you arrive at these diagnoses?

Post a video if you can. Just be aware noises are notoriously difficult to troubleshoot over the internet. And regarding engines sometimes the only real way to know is start taking it apart. Wish you the best of luck whatever happens.

What’s the truck’s history? Are you the original owner? How often has the oil been changed, and what’s the overall maintenance record like? With 150K on a 1GR-FE, many would say it’s just getting broken in.

my brother owned the truck from 2015 - 2022 and ive had it since 2022, idk how often he maintained the oil but i was doing it about every 4 months depending how much i drive, knock sensor has been off and on since i owned it has never made it an issue to drive though... and i was having a problem with my evap system purging the flow incorrectly

Following. Curious what causes OCVs to be clogged if not due to oil changes. My truck is 4 owner vehicle, which started life off as a rental car, had perfectly clear OCVs when I replaced my head gaskets at 295k miles.

I’m not sure the engine looked pretty dirty to be quite honest, a lot of black gunk and dust. I replaced both OCVs and when I attempted to start it it’s struggling to crank over and I got a double code [P0118]. Mind you the truck hasn’t moved in 3 weeks and it’s 50 degrees out.

we recently have made advancements in science. after further digging ive come to the conclussion that there is insufficient oil pressure, ocvs are band new so now its down to the oil pressure sensor or oil pump

I would head to Harbor Freight and pick up one of You can remove the factory oil pressure sender and use that as your test port, the threads are 1/8 BSPT not NPT. If you have oil pressure you got lucky but I would still do a compression/leak down. These are very basic test that will narrow things down a bit further.
