Good evening, it's been a slow snow since around 3 pm, it's more like a freezing rain/slushy ice coming down. There's maybe 2" of snow then a heavy layer of slush/icy mix. I was coming home about an hour ago, I'm glad that I took the T4R. The AWD mode was perfect for the road conditions.

 

@Marty65 i’m a little late to the satellite communicator conversation, but let me give you my two cents worth. I’ve done search and rescue with the Coast Guard and my former Sheriff's Office, so I’ve had of experience as a user and SAR professional with them.

I recommend them for anyone who goes out into the woods or water, alone or in a group. There are just too many situations where your cell phone isn’t going to work when you really need it to. The basic service plan is $15 a month, it has a limited number of messages you can send and receive (receive messages count toward your total) but an unlimited number of “preset” messages which you make up ahead of time. These become your “I’m ok and just checking in” messages for your wife. She also gets a position update with the message.

You can then use your other messages for non emergency assistance if you get stuck or have some type of mechanical issue.

For a real emergency you hit the SOS button and are connected with the emergency dispatch center who make the appropriate emergency services contacts and stay on the line with you gathering more info via text. They are pushing that data out to first responders in real time. It’s a good system and I’ve seen it work on a couple of SAR cases.

The InReach Mini 2 is the newest model and has several improvements over the original mini. I upgraded my original to the Mini 2 and have been very pleased with it.

Well said.
It is peace of mind for about $15 month. You use your phone to text pre-made messages and there is no additional cost. If you text your own message or they text back, it is a small additional cost.

been in -50* temps.... don't recommend it.

eye lashes and eye brows covered in ice from your breath.... forgot about the frozen eye balls. No frozen boogers since I had a scarf over my nose and mouth.
