I do not know all, but I am almost sure any trim with crawl-mode needs electronic (instead of vacuum) controlled brakes.

Correction...there's a vacuum pump on the non-Pro/OR trims, the Pro/OR doesn't need it since they have CC/MTS with electric hydroboost. The Pro/OR has a sealing ball in the cam and a block off plate where the vacuum pump would go on the other trims.

I don't have the crawl control though, since I'm manual. Does that change things?

Are they really that bad? I grew up riding around in my buddy's family 98 Xtra cab, and I loved it. It's been a few years since I rode in it though

I've probably just ruined mine on my own accord tbh

I've got a laundry list of maintenance and alignment issues to address on the front end in the next few weeks which all should improve driveability, so I'll come back with an update lol

You still have the electric hydroboost brakes...should've said ATRAC, too

Unless your scoutmaster is doing the work himself and not one of his workers you are better off doing all the work yourself after he gives you a laundry list. If I’ve learned one thing you can’t trust anyone to do work on your vehicle and expect it to be perfect. If you want something done right you got to do it yourself… A vehicle you’ve learned the ins and outs on fixing yourself makes it fast and simple to diagnose future problems and you’ll know by sound or feel as soon as something changes. Every single time I’ve been with @XPOTRPR and he goes did you “hear” that I think he’s crazy but 10/10 times we have stopped he found the problem almost immediately.

Slightly off topic but what route did you go to get into that? ROTC? My recruiter said for rated positions applying to OTS as a civilian if someone doesn’t have 100+ flight hours they won’t have a chance. I thought that was wild. He’s only had 4 /30 get selected for rated spots last 2 boards and all 30 had 80+ hours

I’ve got 0 but I was thinking “oh military probably has the funding to teach people to fly exactly how they want”

Comfort is meh, but that’s not my main concern. I don’t want to get crunched in this thing with all those tanks rolling around…

I'm in my senior year of AFROTC at ASU. I know OTS is super competitive, and honestly so is AFROTC. I had 130 hours going up for the board, as well as decent other stats, and I still only got a supplemental pilot slot. Hours aren't the biggest thing for us, it's only a small part of your PCSM, but it does help. The sweet spot is 10.1 hours, so you get in the 10+ point bracket without spending the family fortune

Basically ground school + a few flights for 10.1 hours. Probably 2-3k ish to get that done I imagine?

Been studying for the ASTB for navy since they don’t use flight hours for scoring anything it’s purely test based and letters of rec

my family had a similar realization when my 17 jetta got totaled in Phoenix a few years back. Just 3 months before I had been driving a 97 Jeep Cherokee XJ. I would 100% be dead, and if not, even worse- barely alive in vegetable state. from a ram 1500 side impact T bone at 75 mph if I was in that thing. No side bags.

Loved the xj but those old cars just do not win in collisions

Haven't been 100% following along with the issue but if purely mechanical gremlins insurance won't work. If turns out that some of the issues caused by harness/ wiring damage caused by rodents then could be a comp claim.

Don't sink 10-13k putting a new motor in it. Take off what you can, sell it and then sell the truck for what you can get. Buy or lease something new next time.

You could definitely LS swap it for under $10k.

X2, definitely in the camp for a motor swap. Always considered this myself if things went sideways with the 3.5

The thought has crossed my mind. The 4.6L Tundy engine seems nice. Anybody want to help? Or know a shop?

Just kidding. I'm going to see what I can get, I may lose my mind though
