    Hey All!

On my first test drive of a used Tacoma 4x4 (with auto-trans), I immediately noticed that I had to press the accelerator somewhat "with purpose" to get the truck moving. Is this a common to-be -expected behavior? Hopefully, I will test drive a 2023 Sport soon. I'm curious if I notice the same pedal resistance...

    Thanks!

Generally in order for any vehicle to move forward when in Drive one must
apply pressure to the gas pedal.

Conversely, and generally speaking.... in order for a vehicle that is in movement
to stop one would apply pressure to the brake pedal.

It ain't Ferrari brother. It drives and behaves like a pickup truck with a modest V6 power plant.

Are you referring to how far you have depress the pedal or how hard you have to press?

What are you comparing it to?

Keep in mind that a 3rd gen taco is throttle by wire. There is no mechanical connection between the gas pedal and the throttle on the engine. It’s done electronically. Because of this, the engineers have the flexibility to map pedal position to throttle position in a “smoother” way. If you are familiar with mechanical throttles, it might feel weird to you at first.

All the 3rd gens will feel the same unless you are comparing the 4cly to the 6cyl or auto to manual.

I've heard the Raptor R moves reasonably well without too much of a calf workout. Yoga is helpful if you're having ankle mobility issues.

Tacomas aren't quick, fast or nimble.
Most suv's and good sedans are more so.
My wife's CRV is quicker and more nimble and kids Hyundai, Forerunner are too. One kid has a Honda v6 and it's like a sports car.

3rd gen Tacoma's are a truck with a minivan engine. It needs a LOT of rpm to get any power.

A 6cyl taco can to do 0-60 in 7 seconds. I’ve never owned anything that could beat that. Those of you who are calling that slow, what are you comparing it to?

F1 engines rev to 15k rpm. Would you classify them as minivan engines?

If you were looking for a diesel, you bought the wrong truck.

they all have a marshmellow pedal, but you can get an OTT tune and that wakes them up & makes the pedal feel like it should. I got a 2016 6mo ago, and just got the tune. feels like a different truck now. lots of 3rd gen owners have the tune & love it. just search the forum! good luck with your potential purchase

same! my "family" vehicle is a Subaru ascent... thing feels like a rocket in comparison to my Tacoma, the ascent does make more HP, but still

thought my FWD Hyundai Santa FE also feels faster and spin tires for a while as it torque steers before hooking up to actually move

It was tested at 7s by car and driver and maybe some others. Someone posted the test notes several years ago. I’ll see if I can find the references.

That teeine tiny 1.5 L turbocharged engine can really get that CRV going! And with CVT tranny, it's really nice to drive. The set up is a winner, 35+ MPG and some real guts.

The 3.5 v6 is total sh** and belongs in a Camry. Under powered is an understatement. This has been beat to death 100 times over by the way. You have to really really want a Tacoma to buy one of these so approach with the understanding that the 3.5 v6 is an underpowered slug. Toyota was asleep at the wheel and forgot that the 4.0 v6 was supposed to go in the 3rd gen but oh well. Welcome to the club...maybe.
