My son is looking for a vehicle and a coworker of my wife has a 2014 Tacoma for sale. It has 170,000kms on it. The fellow is an older fellow so the truck was ridden hard. He's as $12,500 for it so I am assuming it's not 4x4. Haven't been able to call him yet.

Just wondering if there is anything we should be concerned with or specific things to look for or ask about?

I am unfamiliar with the Tacomas so am looking for advice.

    Thanks in Advance

Frame rust is a problem with these frames and they should be inspected by someone with experience.
So many people show up here with a truck they just bought and found out it had a rotted frame. Buyer beware!

As @spitdog said, number one thing is to get down low and checkout the frame. There have been way too many people who don't look only to find gaping holes and a frame about ready to snap in half. Sharing pics on here can be a good thing to do BEFORE purchase. Take pictures of front and rear suspension and where it attaches to the frame, such as where the leaf springs attach in front of the rear tires.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Honestly, buy it. I like the sound of it. That’s $12.5 Canuckistikian pesos?

Check for rust, oil leaks, if it's 4wd make sure that works in all ranges.

Pop the oil cap off and look down at the timing sprocket, if it's clean or has light brown deposits great, if it's full of black sludge I'd pass as oil changes were probably neglected.

    Post 1 says 170,000kms

    So about 105k?

But @myrtsbnye you have some good advice above. Giving more specifics will get you better answers on potential quirks and value.

Note. If the buyer cares about MPG, trucks are the wrong thing to look at.

If it is a V6, check the timing cover near the power steering pump for an oil leak/seep. When you said: "truck was ridden hard": How so? does it have dents, scrapes, worn interior and carpets? How does the bed look? It's composite, but it can still get beat-up: Scrapes, gouges, dirty. The overall appearance and physical condition of it will tell you a lot. Check everywhere for rust. Service records? How often was the oil changed?

With mileage that low, it wasn't driven much or lived a life of short trips: (+- 10,000 mi/year if my math is right.) Given that, it should have been on the "oil and filter every 6 months" schedule: regardless of mileage.

Most important as stated previous: Frame condition

Look VERY CLOSELY at the frame - especially near the passenger side catalytic converter, and the cab mounts. The HVAC condensate drain dumps onto the frame near the cat. Because of the intense heat cycling from the cat, this is where it will rot out. The cab mounts catch all the crap that kicks up off of the front wheels, and this too will cause it to rot out.
