Fastest time I've seen in any mag for gen3 6 cyl is 7.70 not 7.00. For 0-60 that .70 is a lot.

I’m pretty sure car and driver, motortrend, and others are more competent than that.

    they use a downhill track...

Haha, shit, sure doesn't feel like 7.7 seconds. But I have MT, so feels like a race car, in my mind...

I had the same experience when I first test drove a 2016 DC auto 4WD Off-Road recently. Upon my second test drive, I used more lead foot to get 'er going and had no issues or concerns. Just a little different getting used to than my 4Runner with the Shiftpower pedal controller set to MAX!

Good to know, I love driving my truck and never once felt it was gutless.

Even if the taco does 0-60 in 7.7s it’s still the fastest automobile I’ve owned. This doesn’t comprise everything I’ve owned, but it is a sample of the ones I felt like researching many moons ago when I was discussing this very popular topic.

    1995 Mitsubishi Mirage 1.8L: 8.3s
    1990 Ford Ranger 2.3L: 11.0s
    2001 Subaru Forester 2.5L: 8.5s
    2016 Toyota Tacoma 3.5L: 7.0s

Ranger Raptor does 0-60 in 5.3. For a mid truck that's quick but also a different animal.

I've owned a number of cars, all manuals by the way, which can do 0-60 in the low-6 and mid- to high-5 second range; do I expect that from a Tacoma? Not on your life, it is a truck and it is much better at doing truck stuff than any of my faster cars.

On your next 3rd Gen test drive, press the ECT Power button and if it accelerates more to your liking.

Tacoma gas pedals are fairly firm compared to other vehicles
They have a dual spring pushing the pedal back up. If you don’t like it, you can take one of the springs out, just do a search here to find details, pretty easy

You should go rent or test drive a sub 5 second car. Just to experience it. You may like it!

The only 6 cylinder power plant that should be under the hood of a modern Tacoma is the B58. :burnrubber:

    OP,
Yes this is the single most irritating fact of my 2023.

I installed the (DIY) OTT tune and it makes no difference.
I tried multiple OTT tune, still makes no difference.

Annoying as hell, so I have to teach myself to work around it.
PITA, especially compared to our 2016 RAV4 which has the proper pedal response.

There is a huge, empty hole that does nothing from a stop.
When it finally catches up, it has a big lurch unless you are really delicate with it.
    Annoying as hell.

Third gen tacos are all exactly the same in that regard. The trims aren't anything different beyond cosmetics, amenities, and minor differences in suspension.

They are all slow and you cannot make them fast.

Why is this speed question constantly (it seems) asked about the Tacoma?

I don't expect an answer but I do like the reply you gave.

Every vehicle has its own intended design/purpose.

My wife has a 2017 Elantra Sedan with its own ECT button (Sport Mode) but I don't expect it to act like a 3 Series BMW. lol

Your last sentence is the "clincher" in determining this Analysis/Opinion.

I've said a hundred times, the 3rd Gen with a 4.0 v6 would have been the best mid sized truck of all time. Hands down. Power, looks, all of it would have been perfect.
