Hi. I'm trying to program a keyfob for my dad's 2014 but while following the YouTube tutorials it just doesn't go into programming mode. I noticed the chime beeps nonstop if the driver door is open with no key in cylinder unlike the videos where there is only beeping when the key is inserted in the cylinder. If I insert a key with the door closed there is no chime at all, I thought there was supposed to be a chime to let you know the key is inserted. I can also lock the doors from the inside with no key inserted, I thought that was not possible to do and the truck would force unlock automatically . Any suggestions to troubleshoot this and get the truck on programming mode?

The door needs to be closed.

    Grab the .pdf

Read step- D (2) (where it says close all doors.)

FWIW, If you are anything like me.

You'll need to read it 15x.
    Fail at trying it 15x.
And then reread it 15 more times, before it will work. :annoyed:

Sounds like you have an issue with the Unlock Warning Switch in the steering column or something in the lock cylinder is keeping it depressed when the key is out.
You will need to get that sorted before you will be able to program fobs.

I am just like you then haha.

Thank you! I followed those instructions several times and no luck.

It feels like the ignition switch doesn't know that the key is being inserted. After watching several videos for Tacomas the same years I noticed there is a chime when the key is inserted, no chime on this one. Same with my other Toyotas, they all chime when the key is inserted. Maybe a bad ignition switch...

    Or a very worn key.
My old key was so bad it didn’t make the ignition ding.

    Try a different key.

I think this might be it because that small plug was unplugged when we got the truck and I plugged it back in. Maybe the previous owner unplugged it because of how annoying it is. I will check it out when I get home from work and let you know if it worked.

If you don't want to fix it you can just use a jumper to jumper the terminals for key in and open circuit for key out to get into programming mode.

I ended up having to jump the terminals for the key sensor, i did a bit more research and it seems like a spring that sensors the key inside the key mechanism possibly failed, I have no idea how to fix it so jumping the terminals and leaving that plug unplugged was the fix for now. I want to thank everyone on this forum for your help, is very much appreciated, my dad now can use the key fob!
