Had some puddles under my truck that had the oil slick rainbow color. Parked somewhere else same thing later in the day. I was certain I had the timing cover leak. Too much snow and arthritis to get me to lay on the cold ground. Put it up on my buddy's lift in his shop. Valvoline must have cracked the plastic oil filter housing causing a small drip. Lessons learned no Valvoline, get an aluminum oil filter housing and don't read too many online posts about potential issues. Had myself ready to trade it in last night thinking they'd need to pull the engine to repair it. Still under warranty but I wouldn't have trusted the dealership to do it correctly. I had an F150 Powerboost on deck. Anyway I came in off the ledge and happy in my Tacoma again.

Good catch, but Powerboost are awful nice. Traded in my 18 DCLB for a New 23 Powerboost Lariat 502a 6.5 bed.

My friend just got one. Beautiful truck! There was a 2024 leftover XLT in a MD dealer for $52k. There are freakin tons of F150s available now in every trim and color. Cash buyers can get a great deal right now on one. Financing one not terrible either with the promotions. Plus i heard 22mpg local driving is common. Almost double what im getting in my Tacoma. Still have more faith in the Tacoma to be problem free. My next truck i think I'll go with the Powerboost.

wow an F150 isn't too much more than a 2024 Tacoma. The dealer I got mine from emailed me the other day about trading my 2020 in. claiming top trade in offers were available as the always say. they had an example truck in the email I could buy a 2024 TRD off Road for $51,800! No thanks my 2020 was paid off in September and I still like the truck and am really enjoying no payments.

Yea I owe $3100. I was gonna get $31k in trade with 42k and a new cap on it. Might be fair but it's worth more to me than that.

I broke plastic housing myself too, because it was overtightened from previous dealership service. I was thinking to go alum but rather break the plastic housing over the alum damaging threads itself.

Are you guys talking about the engine oil filter housing? If this is the case (oil filter housing) and you decide to replace it with one made of aluminum, by all means make sure that it has the perforated aluminum tube in the middle. Otherwise the oil filter (cartridge) inside the housing will collapse. The aluminum tube supports the cartridge in the middle, and it also allows for oil to move freely between the outer and inner walls of the cartridge.

What I do is to wipe-clean the threads on both the housing (cap?) and the receiver area of the engine, then then coat with clean oil both the new O-ring and the housing's threads, all before reinstalling.

There have been several reports about collapsed oil filters causing a loss of oil pressure, and even not filtering the engine oil. Had this happen to my 2013 Tundra in 2023, and was lucky the engine was not damaged.

Yes I can see that. I wouldn't go to a 10 min oil change place out of convenience anymore regardless. Have a great mechanic that I trust. I'm good for the fair weather changes I just can't get under there in Jan-March

The local Toyota''s dealership wanted $180.00 for an OM oil filter housing for my 5-7L V8. I bought two of the Chinese-made ones, and so far so good, but I don't trust them. Around $38.00 each at Amazon. Will buy the Toyota one this summer :)

Amazon has the OEM aluminum ones. I paid $58 to get a replacement plastic one at the dealer so I could at least take the truck home today. Plastic after market ones on Amazon are $20

the problem is not the plastic one.
the problem is the person doing it or the wrong tool used to remove it

Correct. I bought a Toyota OEM off of Amazon not an Amazon one.

Not always but you do need to be careful. I got one from Amazon. It was a marketplace item, the seller was a Toyota dealer and it was legit. I did however get a Stant Locking gas cap and a two pack of Toyota oil filters that were counterfeit. The cap I sent back, the filters went in the trash.

I didnt get it yet but I'm 99% certain it's OEM. If other reviews confirmed it. Stamped Toyota in a Toyota box with a Toyota part number. Fully returnable if otherwise. I'll take my chances.

@RIX TUX is absolutely correct just cause it comes from Amazon or eBay doesn’t necessarily make it a knock off . I buy from Daytona Toyota and Conicelli Toyota and they both are legitimate sellers on both marketplaces.
