Sometimes I read threads by a one-post wonder on Tacomaworld. Sometimes I go through scans of Popular Mechanics from 1910. Just another day at the office.

Thank you! That makes sense! My daily driver since the late 90's (1st gen Explorer) has a mechanical "wire" to the throttle body. -Can't say I've ever driven a vehicle with electronic accelerator. ..so that is probably what feels strange to me:)! Once moving, here is no acceleration problem with the Tacoma, just the initial "feel" when pressing of the accelerator pedal (or, I guess it's actually a switch).

    Much appreciated!

IMHO, that’s a you problem (or an automatic transmission problem), not a problem with the engine. I have no problem keeping the revs up during city driving. (Albeit I drive rather conservatively around town.) The skinny pedal is your friend.

I use 0-60 tests as a measurement because they are quantitative and objective. The butt dyno is neither.

There is a learning curve on the gas pedal operation on the 3rd gen that most drivers master well enough to not be bothered in a few months. There is a high resale value on these trucks because most people won't sell them for less.

Its mentioned in every review of the truck, most common complaint here, an enter tune market popped up to "correct" it and Toyota released multiple updated tunes to try and fix it. But it's just a me problem... I fall somewhere in the middle on this. I hated my 19 until I got the updated tune Toyota rolled out in 20 (which you have). Now its not great, but is acceptable.

0-60 time has nothing to do with driveability. The butt dyno is more important IMO... I don't really care about the actual 0-60 (I have a Cobra for that) but do care how the car drives around town and our trucks are just acceptable. My wife has a Corolla, 100% doesn't care about 0-60, but mentions the driveability when she drives my truck.

But you enjoy your truck and I'll mostly enjoy mine!

Were you trying to disprove yourself? The 4.0 makes more torque at a lower RPM.

Are you sure? Cause I have not noticed any torque in real world application.

6.5-8.0 sec for 3rd gen models, that's faster than fake sportscars like honda civic or camry lmao..

And yes, tacoma is like that. The power comes when you push down the pedal, its not like 4runner when it surges right away after touching pedal a little. The old 4.0 was tuned in way that it had lots of power all across, this v6 gets more power the harder you push it

You posted the specs for both engines. The 4.0 has slightly more usable power that's better suited for a pick-up.

its not that the 3.5 is underpowered. its just that it takes 6000rpm to get to the power. terrible engine for a truck imo aswell.
