I have a 2003 Tacoma PreRunner 3.4L V6 and I am currently running the stock 265/70/16 and will soon be switching to either 285/70/17 or 285/75/17 and know for a fact I will need to re-gear my differential. So I am wondering if anyone has any tips on gear ratios, specific gear brands/companies, or just other tips in general for the re-gearing process.

The question will be, what’s the tallest size you plan on running in the future.

Here's a website where you can calculate everything yourself. Also consider extra weight and the weight of your wheels and tires. IMO better to go a little over then under.

You only need to re-gear it if ya need to. Drive it and find out. Not trying to be snarky, but it's the way. What gears are you running now?

Not all, but the majority are. I have a buddy that has 3.91 in a '99 V6/5spd. And I believe some automatics may have had 4.30s. I know V6 4runners had 4.30s, but I could be mistaken assuming that any V6 Tacomas did

Auto or manual? No real need to regear for 33’s if it’s a manual.

Plan to convert to 4 wheel drive? Your money may be better spent on that, depending on what you do with the truck.

its auto. Planning to convert to 4wd as well. I am upgrading the whole thing with Icon suspension, bigger tires, PowerBrake big brake kit, and 4wd.

You can decipher the gears it came with via the code on the door jam.
