Hey, funny I actually saw your post in the Roof Rack Poll thread haha.

Unfortunately (in a way) it was done by the revious owner, not myself so I don't have any write-up details though many have asked.

He said he did some plastic welding and/or real welding. Since the front-to-back distance is now shorter, you cannot fold the cross bars in.

The OEM rack is my favourite look though so I'm glad he did it.

Here are some pics close-up. Maybe I'll remove it one day and see exactly what he did, but I try not to touch stuff that isn't broken haha.

Sorry the water kind of obscures the detail of the plastic weld, but I just rant out and snapped these and it just rained.

And here I folded a bar back just to show you that it is too long. I leave them folded across at all times obviously. This may or may not cost me a bit of milage on the highway. Of course I'm sure the 33's don't help



If I ever get more details from the PO, I'll post in a new thread.

 

Thanks, I like the OEM rack as well and have wondered about cutting the DC's Down.
Let me rephrase, wondered if anyone else would cut one down.
That's pretty much what I figured it would have to be, cutting, Plastic Welding and Cross Bars too long.
Not even sure if I'd buy one if available, but always like to know my options.
I have a cap with a nice Thule Aero Rack, totally removable and fully adjustable in full length rails.
Had it on once when it was new, but have yet to use it. Just runnin' empty rails.



Of course, I'm at less than 6000 miles @ 14 months old, and have other vehicles I use.
I'll make use of the racks eventually
Thought the additional Cab Rack might be nice to have.
Though I have no complaints about the clean roof if not carrying stuff frequently.

Heh thanks man, between the mods the PO has done, and the mods I put into it its turning into the perfect truck for me. Light overland/expadition, and mainly a great camping truck.

Its primary use will be 4x4ing out to tiny lakes in the middle of nowhere, where no one can fit but me/my group, and setting up to stay there for a week etc.

Case in point:
