This company charged me a 3.5% "processing" fee to cancel a pre-order. I wont be doing business with this business ever again and I dont recommend anyone else do either.

Westcott is awesome. Highest quality <insert part here> that you can get.

Also IIRC they tell you there will be a cancellation charge on fabricated parts before you order if they are able to be cancelled at all.

Pretty normal… CC companies charge retailers 6% so be glad it was only 3.5%.

Look at their excessive flat rate shipping of $200 for a roof rack. I didn't buy their rack because of that.

You got off good considering they told told you it would be 6%.
You literally had to click the Accept the term of sale button, before you can even buy from them.

Looks like they cut you a break.....

That is because when you do a return the business doesn't get the processing fee refunded to them (source: I own a business and accept credit cards). So are they supposed to lose money on the transaction? Come on man. This is just an ignorant post. There is still time to delete it.

No way man. I have never in my entire life been charged a "processing fee" on a cancelled order. They want to charge me almost $20 on a pre-order. That is 100% unacceptable. I can understand paying shipping cost to return an item and sharing that cost, but this item hasn't even been made yet. They dont even have them in stock as a 4-6 week pre-order.

Not only that, but materials cost money.
Let's say they purchased materials, then the customers cancels the order.
Who pays for the materials? The time to acquire the materials and/or the return of the materials.

I'm not saying that's the case.

    I 100% agree with you.
Most people don't know what it take to "own and run" a business.

BTW... OP, I'm not picking on you man.

Just hoping this can be a learning lesson for others.
It's not always what we want. It's just how it is......

    Everything cost money.
Trust me man, I know all about fees.

    You want to see fees.
Build a house. There's a fee (permit) around every corner.
At this point, I'm ready to apply for a job at the building and codes office.
I need to get some of my money back.

Disgusting? They refunded you MORE MONEY THAN YOU AGREED TO. Sounds like a stand up company to me.

This company wants to charge me almost $20 bucks for an order that was cancelled before the thing was even shipped. I literally bought nothing from them. Not even a sticker.

I used to deal with the CC processing at a small business I worked at after college. It blew my mind how high some CC percentages were, and that was back in 2009-2010. We charged 3% fee on all CC charges, but some cards were over 8%. I remember looking into why they were so high and learned that a lot of it is from these rewards cards. Looking back, I think rewards cards really hurt things. I mean, they're great for us who pay off our cards monthly with zero interest, but others are paying higher fees because of it.

Yup, it was American Express, lol. Some were in the 1.3-1.65%, but most were near 3%. Again though, this was 15 years ago. Probably higher now.

The company is charging you $20 because it cost them more than that to take your order.

Just because it takes zero effort on your end to submit an order for something and then cancel it doesn't mean there's nothing happening on the other end.
Businesses have overhead costs regardless of how an impulsive customer feels the day after agreeing to purchase something

You didn't read before signing, are you 5 years old?
