I'll be the first to tell you that I don't know a whole lot when it comes to that subject. I'm using a book recommended by a friend.

How Much travel are you shooting for? and Coilovers on link or on axle?

 

I was looking at doing coilovers on link, I mathed a 16" CO at 20.5" of travel in my little stick figure mockup

 

dual shock setup?

 

I'm sure I'd want it with the lever ratio required

 

are you designing yourself or buying a kit?

 

Designing myself, but I'm inexperienced and it isn't really the next thing on the list per say, camper first, the Chevy 63s work fine for now.

 

Im curios on the camper build too, surprised you started with steel as i thought you were trying to be light?

 

Yup, but I'm also not rich (surprising I know) so the main flatbed frame will be steel. The infill of the flatbed floor will be alloy though and all of the camper framing.

 

I ask because 45 series extrusions are not that much more expensive than 2x4 steel rectangle tube. Sure you'd spend $200 vs $50 for what you put together, but lightness and versatility?

 

I'd love if that was the price. I just spent $230 for what I put together. I can't get aluminum as cheap as you apparently. Pricing that out would be $143 per stick of aluminum, and I would need at minimum three. Believe me I wanted to do it all in aluminum but this frame also only weighs 102.4lbs, so it's not a huge deal. I'm going to lose 30 of that just taking the rear bumper off. I think I'll get over having a steel frame. I'm kind of done with the frame part anyway. There's only going to be one cross brace in it to hold up the aluminum center section. And the rest is just wheel well covers which are going to be skinned in aluminum anyway.

 

Not that it is a particularly worthy update but the bed frame has legs now to attach to the frame



And yesterday @2RZNoShi1 decided he'd like to completely remake my charge pipe from scratch just because... so here's that too, just needs the IAT bung welded in but we didn't have any spares on hand last night.

 

Wow that is pretty. Is there a functional side to making this one?

 

It is pretty, I'd say that is its function honestly haha. It does line up a little easier compared to my old one, but my old one was a mandrel bend so it's not like it was a restriction. This one has the blowoff valve bung welded on nicer at least

 

Nothing wrong with that. Kinda like wearing a diamond ring.

 

Fully welded the flatbed frame together yesterday, didn't take pictures of that though. Trying to find the right material to span the center, really wanted some bleacher seat extrusion but that's proving hard to find.

 

How rigid does it need to be? Would something like Trex or Timber Tech work? They are pretty lightweight but might flex too much.

 

I don't know about Timber Tech having never handled any but TREX is very heavy, I think I'd opt just for wood in that case and that isn't a bad option either really. It only needs to span 37" and I can weld in a center support as well.

 

I used Timber Tech for my deck. It does not seem as heavy as wood of the same dimensions. I was under the impression it was the same as Trex.

IIRC the TT needs to be supported if the span is more that 30"
