I answered an ad on Facebook marketplace for a free but nonfunctional Whirlpool minifridge. The guy getting rid of it gave me his address, and I realized it was in the neighborhood where we lived from 1990 to 1996. Amanda and I went to pick up the fridge on Monday afternoon, and the guy's wife was there. She was probably about my mom's age, and I asked if she was an original owner. She yes, and we started talking; I told her that we'd lived there in the 1990s, and started shooting off some names of former neighbors. I hadn't even bothered to check the last name of the guy I'd been talking to, but it turns out that she was the mother of a girl I played with when I was like 3 or 4. My mom and a bunch of the other neighborhood moms started a play group, and that how I knew this girl. I asked my old playmate's mom if she'd driven a silver Pontiac 6000 back then, and she said she had. She was absolutely amazed that I remembered that car more than 30 years later! Turns out that this girl still lives in the area and is now married with two kids of her own...

Decent haul from the warehouse in Harleysville!

 

Amanda saw this water heater in front of someone’s house on County Line Road on Monday while I was at work. She told me about it, we went back, and amazingly it was still there; Amanda told me that she had considered picking it up herself, but I am glad she didn’t! I’ve loaded water heaters into my truck without assistance before, but this was one was so damn heavy that Amanda had to help me load it!

 

I bet it's full of sediment.

The windstorm last weekend picked up my neighbor’s trampoline and destroyed it, so another neighbor cut it up, and I was finally able to pick it up; I also got two snowblowers and some copper tubing from the guy who gave me the Lennox heat pump…

 

Nice haul, any shot at repairing the blowers?

 

A mouse chewed through the gas tank on one, and I have a 3-year old snowblower, so I sent them to snowblower heaven…

 

My mechanic heats his shop with a waste oil heater, so he drained gas and oil from both in exchange for me buying him a cup of coffee. The red 2-stage had no gas in it, but the single-stage shown here had a decent amount of gas in it…
