I would probably bore the cylinders, deck the block, build the head and resurface, new cam shaft is a must and have the crank checked out. Definitely have the block cleaned and new cam bearings.

The cylinders look great. They still have the cross hatching. I’m gonna check the block with a straight edge, I already got a new head and the crank looks good.

are freeze plugs a must replace or? They aren’t leaking at all so should I mess with them?

    Dirt, miles, and wear.
Would you rather replace them now or with the engine in the truck?

well if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? What if I replace one and it starts to leak… they aren’t leaking right now.

a better answer would have been, you will remove the plugs so you can have the block cleaned properly.

The OP didn’t ask me about how to clean the block he just asked if he should replace the freeze plugs. Maybe all future questions I will refer to you for “a better answer”!

When I read "crosshatch in the bores," it sounded like the block isn't getting hot tanked.

I have a 3RZ block on the stand here with 280K or whatever lie the seller told me and I'm amazed how good everything looks. The cylinders have crosshatch up to the top, no corrosion whatsover, and the bearings look practically new. If it hadn't sat with moisture in the cylinders, I would just re-ring it.

    If they're within spec, no.

yeah mine has 285k on it and the cylinders look great. I’ll post a picture Monday. Not getting hot tanked. I have it down to the block and I’m gonna take the freeze plugs out and degrease and pressure wash it. I have a new head, new fly wheel, new clutch, new timing kit, new water pump and oil pump, new ignition coils, new plugs and wires, new radiator, new pistons and rings along with bearings for crank and rods, I’m sure there is more. It’s gonna be like a whole new engine.
