All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I took the last payment for my 76 FJ40 yesterday. Sad day :(

Nothing too new with the build so far, been driving it, fueling it and thats been it. I decided i wanted to improve upon the awful output of the OEM halogens. I've done retrofits on everything i've owned so far so it was bound to be this rigs turn. I bought some spare headlights to run so i could take my time and knocked it out in a weekend. Love the OEM+ look and the output is night and day.

I ended up running the Morimoto 2.0 Bi-Led Projectors as they were plug and play. Just have to make the hole bigger so you can fit the much bigger diameter projector inside

After that you use the washers/isolators that come with it and slap her in. Wait til night fall to check the horizonal alignment before sealing it all back up. Final results

Im the VP of a TLCA local chapter here in South Carolina (Palmetto State Land Cruisers), and went out with a couple members to do some exploring. Was fun to get dirt on the ole girl for the first time. It's really capable in stock form. I love my Tacoma but this thing is different gravy.

Anyways, heres some photos of said adventure and also ih8mud lol.

ive been toying with the idea of doing retrofits too. If you’re ever down in Charleston hit me up I’d love to see how they look in person and pick your brain. Stock lights aren’t as horrible as some people say but there’s definitely room for improvement lol. These things are just nice to drive aren’t they? I think it’s the armrest that really sets it apart.

Yeah man no problem, the output is literally night and day lol. I cannot describe it. It's a must do mod.

it's the smoothest thing i've ever driven.

My stock suspension has almost 270k miles on it and i'd be hard pressed to imagine if i replaced all the end links/bushings/shocks and see what difference it'd make.

This was back in september of last year btw,

Went to Gulches yesterday with a few of the guys from the club.

Bone stock rig and she did very well. Most of the blues were uneventful besides the Clemson Trail. Uphill with lots of holes that required me to give it the beans from time to time lol.Only damage was a broken 7 pin mount and the steps [IMG]

She did great and I feel confident I don’t need to mod this rig at all. ATRAC is absolutely goated.

Next is URE sometime later this year hopefully

Got a smoking deal on a warn winch from a buddy so i had to slap a winch on the ole girl.

Got the TJM winch mount installed and some

3/8” synthetic line from TRE (tactical recovery equipment)

Factor 55 Thimble because why not and the Warn Fairlead for good measure.

Everything mounted up easy and had to just cut the center out the crash bar mounts.

Got it wired up easy enough and everything fits like the same.

    Next is some step sliders.

Barelyyyy got enough room but it's stuffed in there a peach

A couple of days into the new year i noticed my power steering going out. Turns out a seal blew out on the passenger side and she was down for the count.

Got it towed to a local shop, Ordered a brand new OEM rack (~650$) and an alignment later she was back on the road.

My stock shocks had about 270k on them too before I replaced them. It made it so much better. The new bushings on them made the ride a hell of a lot quieter too. I’m biding my time before I try to do all bushings and the motor mounts and tranny mounts. It would be a whole new ride after that!
they were a little worn out

I’m thinking at 300k I’ll go through and replace as many bushings and stuff as I can.

    should make a big difference

Are you going to press out the control arm bushings or wait for a sale and just buy new ones? I’m torn. I hate wasting things that aren’t broken but I also don’t have a way to press them out and in yet.

I don’t like to trash parts either. I kept my one control arms. Hopefully one day I’ll have a way to reuse them.

Haha yup. Same. There are some guys down here that probably do have the tools but since I daily this I have to be quick on repairs and rarely have a spare car to go get extra parts if I run into something surprising.

My rad just took a dump on me at 270k lol.

Got a new one ordered and should be here by next week hopefully

25% off and free shipping made it like 350$ from the dealership.
