I had heard of half-assed repairs at Caliber, but that's at another level. No wonder Caliber locations are popping up everywhere...pretty profitable rip-off organization.

Morning boys. Slept in. Finally above zero. Haven’t started either truck all week. Wonder how that’s going to go today…

It would be nice if there a reasonable way for the customer to be able to hold them liable for the shit work that they pull off on people. The insurance companies will never go through the effort to recoup the $$ they paid out for a job that they will have to pay twice for, it's easier for the to just pay a second time and raise your premiums. I hope that the next shop takes some pride in their work and can fix it properly so that the next guy won't be buying a polished turd.

2 words- jumper cables. I hope that the artic temps didn't damage the batteries. Thank goodness that Chebby is gas powered, no jelled fuel to fight with.

I had to set up a new account with a different mortgage company, apparently my load was sold recently.

Best Thundersnow I ever seen was ~20 years ago taking my youngest son back "home" for Pa. youth deer season to hunt with his grandfather and I. Driving up I-90 before the NY Pa. border started snowing and hard. Leaves still on the trees. Then lighting on Lake Erie off to our left. And then the thunder rolled in like a herd of Buffalo. It was really impressive

Had planned on staying on 90 into Buffalo to see one of my sisters and family but they closed 90 at the border, the heavy wet snow was causing trees to collapse everywhere. So headed East along the border and eventually out ran it. And the thundersnow. It was a 24 hour drive back that trip without sleep. No way I'd try to pull that off today.

Jumper cables are old school today. Living in the frozen Tundra I have 3 of these (of various brands), one in the truck one in the Polaris Ranger and the third in the house as a backup

Yep I'm a few days behind.
Plus 1 on this. I have the original InReach. We were four wheeling in Moab and thought we broke an axle shaft. Black Eagle Canyon west of Green River. Buddy was in a jeep, i was in the taco. No cell coverage so I just hit the SOS button and ordered a flat bed tow truck. Easy Peasy. Wife REALLY likes when I carry it while hunting so if I'm not back by the time I said, I can check in and let her know what's up. We take it on all the motorcycle trips and I will definitely have it this summer when I do my big solo ride.

i have cables. never used them for myself, always rescuing someone else. knock on wood
and i have one of those jump start battery pack things. i make sure to keep it topped off and take it with me wherever i go.
both trucks started. Chebby was no problem. Original battery in him i think. At least I've never replaced it and he's a 2017. Toy was a little grumpy but he kicked over too. I think his battery is 6 or 7 years old, mom and dad replaced it when they owned him.
If anyone is shopping for batteries I will always recommend the walmart everstart or whatever the hell they call their "store brand" batteries. they're actually rebranded interstates but a lot cheaper. Toy's on his 2nd one in 18 years and still good. Runner had one too after the stock battery crapped out on me right after I bought him. And whenever Chebby needs one that will likely be what I get for him too.

Interstate batteries here too but Costco. I'm sure you know that you are pushing fate with those batteries that old. It is time. Just saying... I replace trailer tires and batteries every 5 years. Otherwise when they go it will always be in the worst place and time. But maybe they only do that to me

Sorry you’re going through this. I’d like to echo Chief Mikes advice… check out ( at least test drive one) a used Lexus GX. I bought the wife one for her retirement for us to travel. After I retired I kept my Tacoma and while it was in the shop for maintenance I got to drive it daily for a week. The next week I sold the Tacoma and bought another GX for myself. I can haul 95% what I could with the truck, and the ride is unmatched

I keep an eye on them. I went into this winter fully expecting that I'd have to replace both of them but so far they are still going. Toy not such a big deal since he's just my around town putt putt but Chebby definitely doesnt need to give me any trouble when I'm out camping.
Still on the original RV Marine Interstates in my camper too. They're from 2019 and still going although I do see them drop a bit faster in the cold weather with the heater running. And they trickle charge on the solar most days unless its super cloudy and rainy. Other then running the fridge and heater I dont draw much off of them. I'm outside from the time I wake up to when I go do sleep so I rarely have any lights on or anything. Water pump too I guess.

Really glad to hear that they both started! I had to replace the battery in my Taco last fall, right after the 1st freezing temps at night. It was the original battery (according to the date decal).
