Cam shims showed up. They are absolutely garbage. Everyone of them measured differently @ 180 degrees in the circle. Just terrible. For example one measured .071 and .063 not one of them were the same. They are being sent back.
Ordered the .070 size I needed from a better source. It will be here Thursday so everything is delayed.
I did order a soft pull clutch ramp. The stock pull is pretty hard. Can’t wait for the cold wet weather to leave. 45-50 degrees and clear would be good enough to ride.

Speaking of cam bucket shims. Where did you order?

I got my super tenere 2.5 yrs ago and checked valves then. They were right in spec (21k miles). Since then it's had 10k HARD - high rpms and rev limiter bounced on every ride (not abusive bouncing but I hit it for sure) - miles. And I'm coming up on an oil change.

So I plan on preemptively checking valves before that oil change (so it can be ran an any debris that fall in during check will get caught by old oil n filter) for a peace of mind to see how probably one of the hardest ridden super tenere motors out there fairs with that kind of riding. I don't expect valves to need adjusting *fingers crossed* but preplanning just in case.

The cam shims are for a Harley. It shims the cam shaft in the cam chest for end play. Not the same as a bucket shim.

ah dang. Well good luck with your adjustments. I realized this evening that not only do I have the super tenere preemptive (hopefuly-lack-of) adjustment valve check for peace of mind. I am 10 hrs away from a scheduled valve check on the WR450 at 200hrs (which has never needed adjustment that hopefully stays that way). Both use same size diameter shims in the valve buckets so I am tempted to buy a shim kit.... but also yamaha reliability in hopes of no adjustments needed.

I've decided to buy new wheels and build them myself. I can get Warp9 rims for $130 each. I found factory hubs for $200 total from RMATV. The rims are 36 hole front and 32 rear.

My question is, does it matter what spokes I use? Do I need Honda, Warp9, or?

    First time going at this

I would think all you need is the correct length spokes.

Couldn’t tell yea. But do wonder if you have to use Warps nipples, or if the stockers will work.

Not sure. I'll probably just order the Warp ones. I figure they build the rims around a factory spec hub....so...............or I'll fuck it up and find out

Fitting the rim was my concern more than the hub if that makes sense.

I'd imagine you need to match the spokes to the hub and then a specific length for the hoop size. Building a wheel is not something I have attempted before! It's a definite art. But I think being methodic should be decently easy, should be able to true it on a balancing stand

When looking at spokes, they are just labeled as rim size(18, 19, 21). My assumption(and it's a big one) was that the built in adjustment will work on all rims/hubs the same size. I wasn't sure if the holes in the rim that the spokes slide through are a standard size or if they're specific to each manufacturer.....needing certain sized end pieces of the spoke for the hole size.

I tried "truing" my rims and holy crap did I suck at it. I bought all the tools, loosened all my spokes and gave up after 2 hours of back pain.

40$ at the shop for truing made me feel dumb.

Take pics for sure and keep us in the loop.
