You’d think this damn thing was made from the same material as a Toyota Tacoma frame! As I said before, this is a Lennox heat pump from November 2007; I have never seen a central A/C unit this rotted out that wasn’t somewhere on the Jersey Shore or the Outer Banks!

 

From the right angle, it really does look like it’s still intact!

 

I've seen it a couple times or so.
Mostly when it holds water. Like leaves and stuff get in there a trap moister.
You'd be surprised by the condition of some of the ones in the lawns I've mowed.
No idea how they still run with the cooling fins all stopped up with crap.

But, there’s really nothing there…

 

After opening up the air handler…

 

If the heat pump malfunctions or if it’s just too cold for it to work efficiently, this is what’s heating your house…

A lot of the units I’ve chopped up in the last year have rust on the indoor coil…

 

It was not literally disintegrating like the outdoor coil, and the rust seems to be concentrated to this area…

I couldn’t get a good enough angle to cut the reversing valve down the middle, but I cut the copper, and you get a good look inside the valve…

One of my fellow HVAC enthusiasts on Facebook asked me if the defrost board was set to 90 minutes after finding out that I’d been given a Lennox heat pump, and in fact it was. Is there some significance to this?
