Focal k2 3ways with the Frak tweeter.
Focal k2 coaxial in rear doors
arc audio dsp amps, Blackbird & Nighthawk
Pac ap4 ty 14 amp interface
    12" jltw3 d4
    groundshaker underseat box.
as couldn't wait any longer for TT to get their act together....

Here's what the installer ended up doing with the tweeters.
After me calling focal tech support numerous times over educating myself on what these tweeters really needed & wanted to sound their best in regards to positioning....
Some tweeters thrive off axis, others need to be on axis to sound their best.
If a tweeter is designed to sound best off axis & you installed it in an angled mount pointing at you, you didn't do yourself any favors..
    vise versa...
expressing my concern to my installer about these needing to be on-axis to perform their best, blah, blah, blah....
Frak tweeters are substantially different than what was previously offered....
My installer had a discussion with Nick Wingate over the situation....
Nick Wingate actually personally called me....
Explained the a-pillar if installed / positioned correctly will be just as good as getting the pods, won't matter enough to go through the trouble with getting the pods.
Nick was very familar with the pods from Germany...
My installer wanted to keep the install clean as possible & thought he could aim those tweeter pretty much / close enough to on axis & still be in the stock a pillar mount...
So This is what they came-up with....
Sounds really good, wondering if I'll really hear any improvement after the break-in period. Or if it will get louder at all...
Can really hear the time delay, the "soundstage" sound jumping around throughout the various speakers, etc...
Unlike the other installers dsp system I demo'd, I didn't hear any of that in his build.
I feel it can be louder but it's plenty loud.
Think most installers also tune / adjust to keep things bullet proof....
He did say there was a bit more adjustment in the loudness dept but felt confident is his adjustments...
Overall happy with it, see what happens when I get some real time behind the wheel.
Amps dont fit under the seat so they went same locations as Bobs, where the jbl mini sub was....
This is a full active system, crossovers were not used inline with the speakers,
all dont within the dsp tune...
I can say, I have ZERO rattles even with the sub control knob cranked to the moon & this is with a 12" sub powered by 800 watts...
EXCEPT for the bezel around the rear view mirror, I will handle that tomorrow, will sound deaden it...
May also be a perfect candidate for some of that hybrid sound skin closed cell matting since the panel lays on the glass to a certain extent.

This thread gives me some hope as just realized these previous gen tacoma boxes could be a great option for another build ill be doing...
While doing my 24 tacoma, introduced my teen so to the world of slapping woofer & loud systems....
A 2010 single cab ford ranger with low 50k miles fell on my lap, really cant walk away even though it wasnt planned, will be my sons ride.
So I told him ide throw a system in it for him....
Prefabbed vehicle specific boxes are slim pickings for the ranger, think mostly due to ford stopped production for a bit so box makers moved on.
Yes, a genaric wedge style truck box off of Amazon could work to,
But going to dig deeper in this tacoma option as looks promising.
    No idea if I want 2 10's, 2 12's, 1 ported 12...
Heard 2 8's can be amazing but im not optimistic.
A standard full size sub I think may produce better sound as in something im more familiar with...
Cant say I love my jl 12tw3 d4 in the 24 tacoma even though its no slouch....
Ill figure things out, one way or another.

doing CDT hd-62 2 ways components in the front doors, 6.75" woofer driver replacing the 6x8.
Figured would be pointless to add speakers to the behind the rear seat location since its a single cab & there will be sure back there...
    not sure...

Not much about Access Cabs in here. My single 12 fit nicely on the rear seat.

Amp is tucked away under the drivers seat:

Im sure he would dig it & by the time he realize he damaged his hearing, it will be later in life & ill be long gone by then....
    Thanks for acknowledging my post....
Got the truck, got some minor oil leaks fixed...
Im chomping to get this done, but really wanting to teach the kid something...
We need to sound deaden the doors & back wall, but he's going to Arizona this weekend so back burner till next weekend.
Came to the conclusion that im going custom box route behind the seat....
Still no idea if he & I will be satisfied with just 2 10's behind the seat, vs deep bass from 1 12...
Sucks as once money is spent, theres no do overs...

Got a killer deal on an 1800 watt Recoil 5 Channel amp which is way overkill for this setup but it can be transferred later on in life if he decides he wants to do another build. The amp claims 1200 watts at the sub channel stable at 1 ohm...
Im in the process of raising the driver side seat "seat lift" to shoehorn this amp under the seat...
Dont want the amp on the back wall as want to leave all the room for a low profile box...

I know this isnt a tacoma but starting another build im excited about...
Single cab ranger for my son...
Actually having him put in the work...
    CDT hd-62 2 ways
Recoil red1800.5 amp, BIG AMP, need to do a seat lift which is in process to get amp to fit under the seat. I did do a test run with some spacers "cv axle nuts" & verified the lift will clear the amp.
As I want to utilize the rear of the seat strictly for the sub box...
Just a single cab so still undecided on 2 10's, or 2 12's....
& the hardest part for me is deciding on which shallow subs, the audio market is so overly saturated with options & they all claim to be the best & no need to spend a premium.... Im So undecided!!!
2 12's in a single cab might be overly stupid though.....
People that do this everyday claim 2 10's will sound better than 1 12, not sure...

On a scale of 1-10, for those in the know, how important is that a subwoofer does not face upwards?

The proper thing imo to do is start with your enclosure volume expectations and pick a driver to fit, especially in a vehicle where space is constrained. Then don't buy a driver that doesn't give you specs you need to model performance. Parts Express hosts manufacturers that provide T-S parameters for nearly all their drivers. Throw that in a software like Bass Box and you can find the setup that's best for your $.

For instance, I narrowed my choices down to two 8" subs, one $40, the other over $100. Did some modeling to see what I was gaining for $60. Turns out exactly nothing at the enclosure volume I was considering, with a variety of different port designs. https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-SD215A-88-8-DVC-Subwoofer-295-484

About the same as the directionality of your mouth to breathe.

The mounting direction really doesn't play much part in any of it. It's really the surrounding airspace and reflections that will play the most part in the mounting orientation.

Think the difference between breathing through a 4" tube, and a straw.

Well, that kinda plays a key roll in direction in a truck right? If it faces down or towards the rear, I imagine reflections are more additive, particularly in lower frequencies where reflections aren't canceling out

yes and no. there's still reflections, but there's also cancellations. always. there's essentially 2-3 main variables-- we're controlling the airspace behind the sub(box), the airspace in front(cabin), and sometimes the airspace moving between the two(ported configuration).

there's lots of documentation on box wall flexing. but the second air chamber(the cabin) also has the same issues, with 'wall flexing', as well as acoustic reflections and cancellations.

every aspect has a different method to control overall response. pointing backwards, or downfiring has the benefit of better cancelling out distortion, and overall muting/averaging the tone(think trombone mute), as it relies entirely on reflection and air movement to pass the sound out to the secondary air chamber. but because the cone distortion is more easily masked in this configuration, it tends to be measured as louder because the apparent distortion limit is higher.

upfiring, or forward facing has the benefit of being 'clearer' because the cone is acting directly on the secondary air chamber

all of them have their place, it's just a matter of understanding what works for your situation.

I like the fitment. That setup is probably not going to work very well under 80Hz though. Probably would have been better off with a single driver, but I get that it's tough to say no to a dual config when the alternative is in the middle, aimed at your right ear

    High Definition series,
The guys over at car audio forum that know way more than me say theyre pretty bad-ass for the cost....
    We shall see.....
My DD & researching specs, messaging with people who compare & demo mid drivers, they sound better & louder than Alpine type R's & cheaper..
    Should work-out fine....
Just have a feeling 2 10's with some serious wattage behind them, hopefully we get balance & subs aren't overkill for the mid drivers...
Ive got no doubt that things wont be tuned correctly & will sound good.....
