I have just finished removing my stock 6 disc JBL sound system (including amp and subwoofer) and installing a Kenwood DNX 7100 along with two 10" JL W3's. I just wanted to let everyone know so that I could answer any questions that may arise. I am not a pro but this is probably the 12th stereo system that I have completed and had fully functional on the first attempt. I would be happy to post any pictures or answer any questions since there is a major lack in Double Din Installs on the tacoma world forum. By the way, I Love The System, but I would rather have two 12"s (just didn't have room for mounting depth).

Definately post some pics, especially if you have an access cab. Always love to see some JL subs.

Where did you mount the GPS antenna?

It is definitely the double cab. I will get the pics up tomorrow (hopefully).

I looked at several different places to mount the GPS antenna but all of them required major removal of many interior parts. So, I contacted Car Toys to ask them what they do with the GPS antenna. They told me that since it is a Garmin system, the reception is so good that the antenna can be located inside the dash as long as there is no metal objects above it. So, i just tucked it back into the dash as far as I could without exposing it to hot air from the defroster. Reception is great and on the DNX7100 I can view all Garmin satellites in the sky, their respective signal and which one is closest to me. I live in Portland, OR and at any given moment I have about 14 satellites above me and atleast 9 of them are getting a full signal. I think it would be difficult to mount it in a "bad" place.

    Hope that helps.

Here is the finished product. I did it myself so no insults about the install quality. I thought I did a pretty good job anyway. It's for function not for show!

Nice and clean. Always the right choice w/ JL Audio. So did you upgrade the door speakers as well or leave them stock?

I bought the box from supercrewsound.com, it was a perfect fit. It cost me $139.00. I bought the two 10" JL W3 off of ebay for $190.00 for the both of them. The amp is a Directed 600D which I have had for about 7 years now. I wouldn't trade it for anything. One of the best amps I have ever owned. I have ran two DVC 15" HX2 off of this amp and at another time three alpine type R 12"s. This amp is indestructible and will hammer any subs you run to it. The kenwood DNX cost me $1300 plus a two hundred dollar warranty that is good for 5 years.

I have not upgraded the JBL stock speakers but in the near future I am going to install a set of Focal 165V2's and a set of Focal 165CV2's for the rear. I am going to push them with an alpine 150X4 amplifier.

Nice set up. I have the PDX 4.150. You won't be disappointed. Focal is an excellent speaker. I went with MB Quart RCE269 components for the front. They are a 6X9 woofer and fit right in.

    BTW, I'm from Portland too.

Here is a wiring diagram for the 2nd Gen tacoma with the JBL sound package. It was very helpful for me. I can't take credit for the diagram though, Enola Gaia sent it to me. By the way, thank alot Enola.

How pricey are the MB Quarts? And where did you pick up your PDX 4.150? I have found it on ebay for as low as $370, beats the hell out of the $700 that Car Toys is asking for. How noticeable was the TRD catback exhaust? I have flow master muffler and I am thinking about buying the JBA headers.
