Any bucks get shot here. Does too. I'm after meat, not trophies. Wouldn't turn down a big one though.

 

Me personally i dont shoot the current year baby. Im meat hunter as well just rather shoot a mature deer vs a deer that just lost its spots. Thats just me though.

 

Yep, I generally don't shoot yearlings or does with yearlings. Single does and bucks over 1.5yrs are fair game though.

 

Many, many years ago a buddy and I were hunting deer on Kodiak. He had his 30-378 and spotted this deer way off. Decided to stretch the legs on the WBY. This was before range finders were affordable, and we estimated 450-500 yards. He took a couple shots and missed. I took a shot and missed. Then I thought, what if it's only 300 yards, so i aimed a bit lower. Yep, that did it.
Walked up on it and it had just lost it's spots. Picked it up with one arm. Felt pretty bad. Tasted great though. Both meals.

 

did that 30-378 skin it and gut it for you. I'm surprised it didn't cut it in half

 

Wasn't enough to make the bullet expand.

 

what were you shooting?

 

at the bottom of the 9th with a pocket full of tags and nothing in the freezer…. I may have harvested some.
