I would be all-in, but my problem at the moment would be the rear optional ''SUB'' I got with the truck. It would now be of no-use, but taking it off would simply create 3 holes through my plastic trims that I have no idea how to deal with.

    Subbed for specifics and price.

Any chance this system would work with a stock non-JBL head unit? I kind of doubt it has enough power and the adjustability to get the most out of your kit but just looking for clarification.

What amp/headunit will you be running these off of when you test?

I think the plan right now is for my truck to be a baseline, no deadening, etc. I will grab an amp I have at the house, and my power supply, so probably something like a jbl 60w per side, then bridge it for ~150w per side.

In my truck it will be off an Alpine W203, but that will be feeding a processor so we can work with phase and crossover controls to find out what works best.

In his truck, he is running an Eclipse Nav head unit, and a JL HD900/5

The tricky part is going to be running this off a head unit, as there is no crossover available yet. May be Phase 2 of testing or some such.

Well, if you can figure out what crossover sounds best with your fancy shmancy processor, that would give you a good idea of what crossover to include in the kit. Just thinking out loud here, I'm sure a smart guy like you knows this already.

Lets just hope the door opening doesn't need any "persuading" to accept the larger speaker. :D

This is kind of the plan :D. We get it figured out with the processor to find out the best crossover points, slopes, phase, see if a tweeter attenuation is needed, etc.

At that point, this will create some work for Steven, as he tries to build a crossover that works as desired.

Crossovers will definitely affect the price, some single components can be $10 bucks per, or more. I am looking at buying/building some for a home theater project, but luckily I will be using a common enough points that I am deciding if it is worth my time, or easier to just buy them - Basically I am working it out to about $30-$40 per crossover if I build it myself. So I know he will have a good time working that out.

It is difficult to know how much work he is actually putting into this, and we have not even started the hard part yet. For those watching, myself included (for a buddies truck), it is appreciated!

Brand new member as well - but this thread was enough to make me want to register as a member and post here.

VERY interested, as long as the price isn't ridiculous.

Hey guys, there has been quite a bit of interest so far, and I have been looking at crossover prices and what not, getting a pretty good idea of what this might cost.

I wont be using the kit, as I will be running a Audison BitOne processor, and trying out different drivers, but I also know what I will be spending on my drivers - I already have some nice drivers to play with on my own, plus I have been eyeballing these Peerless 8" drivers on my own.

So with that said, what are you guys thinking is a good price point for a setup like this?

Please understand - I am only in this for the testing, and to help a couple friends out. I will not be receiving any payments, favors, or benefits from this. Technically, I cant, as it violates the rules/laws of my present job.

What I would consider comparable products :

Image Dynamics XS69 - less cone area, so less bass. Tweeter is just OK(IMO)

Dynaudio system - these seem to be love/hate for most people, but good drivers.

Morel Elate - I like the tweets on these, but the mids are higher distortion/lower excursion. Good drivers though.

Can't wait to hear how they sound, and the price! These are perfect as I can't give up space for a sub but have wanted better low end and overall sound.

Here's the news for what we did today.

We got the drivers in my truck and set them up like any of you would. We used my processor only for crossovers which will be done with a passive crossover in the final kit. The only EQ or tuning capability we used was the stuff available on my headunit (bass, treble) like all of you have with even the stock deck.

I really like the tweeters. In fact I'm considering replacing what I've been using with these guys. They're a done deal. Extremely detailed and they do quite well off axis. Better yet, they are pretty small and sounded good in the stock location. I think they'd sound even better in the sail panels but that's something that would be done by the owner if they so choose.

The woofers sound fantastic and are very capable but in all honesty may lack the bottom end I'm really looking for to complete this kit. Let me explain...

Capable means a speaker is mechanically able to produce what you are asking it to do. These 8's, with the EQ set to flat and the loudness off are extremely clear but don't have a lot of bass. Make a few simple EQ adjustments and you're rocking pretty darn hard. We lit up 1200 Mics - DMT and it was shaking things up pretty good.

SO in the end they work great and as intended but I'd really like to see if I can find a driver with more bass out of the box that way the response will be a little better and more even.

I'll wait for Matt and Josh to post their comments too. I think it's probably good as is but I'd like a little more out of it personally.

2k on the midbass and 2250 on the tweets. Still experimenting but it's not the top of the list in terms of priorities. Still playing with configurations.
