    It totally helps thank you.

The last paragraph, could you elaborate on what you mean by upgrading speakers before oem audio plus? Isn't that the same thing? Or are you saying you'd pick out different speakers?

I've heard mixed reviews on thr OEM audio plus subwoofer.

Has anybody compared an under the driver seat small subwoof to the oem audio plus?

What about swapping out the speaker portion of the oem audio plus subwoofer with something more robust but using their housing?

    Other alternatives?

Just wondering if there are better options with their system?

I have this switch. They probably discontinued it because they were having issues with it. The issue I had was that I would only have sound every other ignition cycle. Example, I would turn on my truck and go to wherever I needed to be and I had sound. The bass knob switch worked and everything. When I would come back to my truck and leave again, I would not have any sound. I had my guy recheck connections and he said everything was cool. I would get back into my truck and go to wherever I needed to go and I would have sound again. I live locally to OEM Audio+ and they even diagnosed it. Switch out the Amp, installed a different bass knob switch, and the issue persisted only every other ignition cycle. I finally decided to just leave it unplugged and haven't had an issue since. I just adjust the bass thru the head unit. OEM Audio+ refunded me my money and said they would be in contact when they had a fix. It's been almost a year but I let it go already. It's not that big of deal to me now. I'm still very happy with the system quality.

Can I get your opinion on the subwoofer quality of the OEM+ bass?

I'm no audiophile, but I think it bumps pretty good and I only have the Bass Level set a little passed half way on the head unit. It's more than enough than what I need. I like to use the song Headsprung by LL Cool J to demonstrate the Bass for some people, I'll put the head unit volume to around 50 and the Bass level a little past half way, the rear view mirror will twerk more than Cardi B.

Lol. Nice. I appreciate the feedback. I know there is no way to tell without actually being present but it helps to have real world testimonials. I'm same boat as you. No audiophile but would appreciate a better overall sounding system and looking for value quality.

Really I'm comparing this option with a smaller under the driver seat option as well.

Right on, I hope you find what works for you.

I will say this, the price for me was steep, but I was still willing to pay it because it was all plug n play out of the box. If I pieced it out I would have really needed an education on every component to know what I'm actually buying and how it functions, and I'm not a big enough audiophile to take a dive like that. Maybe I'm overthinking it. I work at a dealership and one of the Techs knocked it out for me in a couple hours and he did it for a bottle of Bourbon. He didn't want to take my money, he said he just loves working on stuff like this. He even threw in some extra sound deadener he had laying around. This system is tuned for optimal sound for our trucks....or so OEM+ says. I'll take their word for it. It did come with a different Bass Level switch. That one worked great and had no issues. I tried to custom install it on the left switch panel and it looked meh. When I came across the Toyota specific switch, I had to have it. Lol, sadly when that's when it went down hill and don't even use it anymore, but like I said, I adjust Bass now thru the head unit. I actually rarely adjust it, I think I found a sweet level for me and I'm happy.

I would have upgraded the stock speakers with some aftermarket and added a subwoofer before going with the OEM+ system route. I think I would have saved some money. It's hard to justify a $1K+ plug and play speaker system to gain a little better sound quality, clean look, and simplicity since everything is already hidden anyway and no one would notice. As for the Android head unit, you definitely notice the difference even though it looks stock. For the price, you can't go wrong and if a new one comes out in a couple of years, it's still cheaper to upgrade to a modern Android unit and swap out in less than 30 minutes.

I really appreciate your responses. I've kinda settled ok OEM Audio plus at least for speakers. At 600 its on par with other speakers. Its the custom fitted sub behind the back seats that has me questioning life. It adds 1200 more to the cost. I vacillate betweennthat and getting an under the seat mini sub?

but was wondering if you were to do it all over again what would you choose to do for speakers?

I would agree with your speaker setup for $600 which is on par with what is out there. I guess the question would be what the cost is for an under the seat amp and a subwoofer box that would custom fit behind the back seat. As for wiring it to the Android head unit, it should be straightforward unlike the stock head unit which would require splicing and figuring out the wiring diagram. The reason I went with OEM+ in the beginning was because I never thought that I would upgrade the stock head unit for fearing I would lose steering controls and the hassle of splicing wires and screwing things up. In 2018 there wasn't really any cost saving options for plug and play head units that included can-bus which allowed you to keep steering controls and other stock features. Now, there's more options for simplification. The only reason I changed out my head unit was because I wanted Android Auto and it had to be wireless. When the 2020 models came out with Android Auto I was jealous and couldn't justify to upgrade for a $1600 stock head unit with Android Auto (not even wireless) or convert my existing head unit and pay $400 for a conversation kit (also not wireless). Now, I can play YouTube, watch Netflix, pull music from my 3000 music NAS library, and play online games while in the parking lot waiting for the wife to walk out of a Target shopping spree. If I was put in your situation TODAY I would get the Android head unit and door speakers first. Hear the difference with just those two add ons and then consider adding the sub/amp option. The internal amp with the Android head unit is enough to push whatever door speakers you get. In fact, it may even blow those speakers if you max out the volume. Hope this helps.

    2 last questions.

    1) what android unit did you get? I'm starting to settle on the Joying with the tangible volume knob because i like having a tangible volume cobtrol available to me and my passenger.

    2) Quality wise(regardless of price) are OEM Audio plus speakers (the 600 set) better worse or equal to the other plug n Play speakers on the market today in term sof sound quality?

    1) I got the 128GB B Model for my model year with the volume knob. I'm not a fan of changing volume levels with just touch screen especially if your hand are wet/sweaty. I believe the 2020+ year uses Model A. https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-l...id-car-navigation-for-toyota-tacoma-2016.html .

2)The OEM Audio speakers are just as good as any high end speaker and the fact that it's plug and play there's no need to splice any speaker wires. I would recommend them for the simplicity, fitment, and sound quality.

Here is a link from this Youtuber that installed the same unit to his Tacoma just to get an idea the simplicity of the install. He upgraded from the previous joying model to this new one. FYI, the trim that goes around the factory unit just pops off. I don't think he shows the removal of the trim that the new head unit will bolt on but you will see how he does it. Make sure to watch the whole video which he will explain. https://youtu.be/Bve1vNaotyY?si=pOVlwWWTKzVz4D9N

This link is where he explains the wiring harness and what gets plugged into it. https://youtu.be/gSe3Klvn_hA?si=m1QyH-k-oXacgWDD

Check out his channel which goes over the features of the Joying Head unit.

Can you send me the proper sub amp settings. My sub sounds like its barely on. I feel like pulling teeth everytime I reach out to them for support.

Sorry to hear about your experience, Osideplayer. I would be very frustrated at that point, especially considering the primary selling point of OEM Audio Plus is the "plug & play" installation.

I've reached out to OEM Audio Plus twice (within the last month) to ask about a speaker-only upgrade for Tacomas with factory JBL. Both times, they told me they would ask the tech team and get back to me within a day, but I've never heard back.

They seem to be updating their products and their website. I noticed their speakers are now manufactured by Blam Audio. Did you happen to get a full plug & play set of speakers for your factory JBL equipped truck? If so, are they running of the factory headunit, and how do they sound?

Good find! I didn't see a link to these full range tweeters anywhere on their website? Now, I'm wondering if they're selling other speakers/components individually, somewhere on the website?

I'm also surprised to see they advertise plug & play installation with JBL trucks...so they must include the JBL specific wiring harness/connector. Very interested to know how these sound!

You cannot simply upgrade your speakers since you have the JBL. I actually tested this out as the first thing I installed were the speakers. The dash JBL speakers are 2 ohms and OEM is 4 ohms, so your audio will come in clear but at a significant cost of volume causing calls to be extremely difficult to hear. Unfortunately the JBL system is very unique and cannot simply be swapped out unless you match the ohms of the existing speakers.

You can switch out your tweeters with another set of 2 ohm tweeters, but you will have to do some cutting and modification to get them to fit.
