It's a good one. If you haven't done Humphreys yet that East ridge is well worth doing. If you want the most visually striking arete in the Sierras look up Edge of Time on the Citadel. If you're climbing hard 5.10 it is not to be missed. Worth every second of misery on the 15 mile approach

The shiftpod mini III worked great on my first use. It was windy and the tent didn't shift or flap or have any noisy nonsense.

I’ll be interested to see how it fares. The originals were so fragile half of us had them full of patches by the end of a season; this was for mountain search and rescue, which means harder use than an ultralight PCT runner, but still.

Lol, as if I should talk about patches. Here’s my 14yo MH synth down jacket. It’s seen a bit of action.

I’ve slept in the bigger one. It’s heavy and big…but it’s really solid. Feels like a moon mission.

I would definitely car camp with that if I was in high wind areas and was dead set on being in a tent instead of in a camper shell.

That is a well seasoned jacket. Haven't put it through its paces but kept me warm at 12 degrees with 3 days of continuous wear. I don't foresee me camping in colder weather so 800 fill is perfect for me.

I just got an Oclip Pro from Amazon for $30 (1 day sale). This little thing is solid.

The Oclip Pro is a nice upgrade from the original Oclip.
This is one of mine. They make great gifts too.

Need some assistance thinking through a project I need to do for a customer. It's home improvement/outdoor related.

She wants an outside shower on her heavily wooded lot (softwoods). I've cleared a short path to a flat area fairly close to the house. I'm building a 3'x3' cedar platform to stand on. It's well concealed and has good drainage.

She want a simple solar shower bag hung up. Like those big, heavy duty cleared ones with the shower head on bottom.

She's short and a tiny thing. I need to find a way for her to hoist this well up above her head as she won't be able to simply lift it up and connect it to a rope or something. It'll be too low.

I was thinking about one of these.

It's got a self release mechanism just using the rope so she wouldn't need to get up high to disconnect it. I've seem others that require the press of a button on the puly

But with the shower empty, I'm wondering if the lack of tension will allow that self release to work.

Was trying to avoid a simple pully and tying the rope off to a nearby tree as that would involve knots she'd have to tie while also holding the shower up.

Did I explain this fairly clearly?

    Any other suggestions, thoughts, ideas?

A pulley is a great idea for her. Can you put an eye bolt on the deck and she can attach to that?

I’ve used these things before, they are great for securing something without having to use a knot. It’s similar to what you posted but uses a rotating cam to lock the rope into place instead of teeth that dig in

    That go me thinking.

My plan was to string a rope (like a tight ridgeline) between two nearby trees with a bight in the middle to allow for attachment of something (pulley, hook, etc). This would be directly over the platform. I could hang a simple pulley & rope with a carabiner on each end. Put an eye hook into a tree and just hook the carabiner to it once it's hoisted up. The other carabiner would be connected to the solar shower bag. The rope would be a fixed length so no confusion on her end. Just lift & hook to the eye hook.

    Thanks!

Does anyone have a lead on the platypus gravity drain filters that aren’t $80? That just seems steep for some reason.

on a side note, we’re taking stock of all our stuff and are going to start taking our kids (4&5) car camping. Anything you guys found indispensable with little ones around? So far all we need to add are their sleeping bags and a new tent since our old 3 person one was already tight when it was just the wife and I with a dog. Thanks in advance.

Try the Sawyer inline filter. One of the most widely used by thru-hikers. $29

Thank ya. The technology can’t be that different between brands. Thanks for the suggestion.
